Summary
Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake & Sweeney, a giant D.C. law firm with 800 lawyers. The money was good and getting better; a partnership was three years away. He was a rising star with no time to waste, no time to stop, no time to toss a few coins into the cups of panhandlers. No time for a conscience.
But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Michael survived; his assailant did not. Who was this man? Michael did some digging, and learned that he was a mentally ill veteran who'd been in and out of shelters for many years. Then Michael dug a little deeper, and found a dirty secret, and the secret involved Drake & Sweeney.
The fast track derailed; the ladder collapsed. Michael bolted the firm and took a top-secret file with him. He landed in the streets, an advocate for the homeless, a street lawyer.

Distracting performance by the narrator
Not my favourite Grisham book but I did quite enjoy it. However I didn’t like the style of the narrator and it did rather affect my enjoyment of the book. He sounds like an elderly man but the main character is only 32 years old- off putting in my opinion.

Simply fantastic
I'm slowly working my way through John Grisham's novels after a hiatus of 25 years. Audible sets them alive especially with the narration by Frank Muller. His tone and delivery are joyous to listen to. Simply fantastic

Heartwarming
Loved the narration as always. Fantastically researched stories, so good story but, too short - the story was building so well in it felt like there was more to say. Looking forward to part 2 ;)

A great yarn
Some books you are there within a paragraph, this one took a couple of pages......... by which time I was hooked. A great story that was thought provoking. Brilliantly narated, highly recommend......

One of his best
I used to love John Grisham and then I found the later books seemed to drag so gave up. Out of the blue I decided to give this one a try and it has revived my enthusiasm. It is very good At the beginning one has no idea where it is going and as one finds out one has already been drawn into it I also liked the underlying passion with which he addresses the basic subject of the homeless.

Uplifting
One of the best openings I have ever read, a great story well told. Fascinating insight to a world most of us ignore.

Classic Grisham
Every now and then one can find something to criticise in a John Grisham novel but this book really does tick all the boxes. I do believe that there are traumatic events that can change the whole direction of one's life and this story is very believable, in that respect. If I was to criticise anything, it would probably be the rather "Hollywood ending" which doesn't often happen in real life. However, as a story it is very satisfyingly complete with a good beginning, middle and end. Great book for a long journey.

The best of Grisham
This book is simply brilliant. The narrator is perfect and the story riveting.
The story is heart rending and the amount of research into the homeless really brought it to life. It’s a 10 star listen.
