About this listen
Working for a better future can mess up a better today.
Summer, in besieged New Hampshire, is a busy time. In this sixth book in the Siege series, people in the southern tier are working their ad hoc farms but are facing a firewood shortage for the coming winter. People in the north country have abundant wood but little farm-able land. They face a food shortage for the coming winter.
A brash promoter, C.T. Farnum, appears with a solution: refurbish a century-old steam locomotive to transport wood to the south and crops to the north. Despite having much to do around their own properties, Martin and the Hendrick brothers delay their own work to help with Farnum’s project. There are troubles — both natural and manmade — along the way. And, as if that was not enough, there are mysterious strangers lurking in the woods.
