Summary

This town...there's an evil here...

In a town where the people are colder than the weather, and the situation is crazier and more mysterious than anyone can possibly imagine, Chicago police officer Christian Hawk decides to take on the challenge of unravelling three months’ worth of strange disappearances.

Opting to escape and fall into his work after a personal tragedy, officer Hawk ventures into the cold, desolate town of Holberg, Norway to attempt to uncover why multiple people have gone missing, with no obvious traces left behind except strange markings.

This is his diary, these are his entries.

His nightmare is only just beginning…

Where do I start?

The narrator was great, excellent choice for this audiobook. I’d certainly like to listen to him narrate other books in the future.

For the most part, I liked the story and felt like I could see what was going on in my head like I was watching everything unfold, the narrators voice certainly helped with this. There were a few bits that were a little confusing and when the end came I was sat wondering what the…? for a bit while everything settled.

I’d certainly got some of the story correct from bits throughout, but there were a few plot twists that I definitely could not have seen coming!

Overall a good listen, but I still have some questions that the end just didn’t seem to tie up? Especially about the receptionist lady!

I received a voucher for the audiobook from the author, but the review here contains my own thoughts after listening to the audiobook.

Atmosphere and Engrossing

This Audiobook is a great example of the perfect marriage of author and narrator styles, they compliment each other so wonderfully and it makes for a wonderful audiobook experience. The author has a wonderful writing style that just flows and maximises the sentences perfectly, painting a vivid tapestry in your mind and the the narrator I could listen to all day such is his captivating and comforting voice. The story reminded me of an old school noir and had it not been for some of the references to modern tech, it would have been easy to imagine it set in the times of the classic pulp detective stories. The story itself goes into an interesting direction which I won't spoil, yet doesn't feel forced l which is often a trap many authors fall into when attempting ambitious twists. Lee Cooper is a great discovery and one who I hope finds a wide audience as his writing style is a genuine joy, and I am also keen to hear more from this narrator.

The Town that never was.

A most interesting short listen from Lee Cooper, I'll be keen on listening to more of his work in the future. This one is well paced with a plethera of intriguing characters. It is sometimes a little confusing as things happen unexpectedly but overall a great story. Highly Recommended. Timothy H Fielder did a great job of the narration bringing the story to life.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.
