“I’m doing something here that I’ve never done before, presenting the lengthy, raw interviews of my work. In the fall of 2019 through August 2020, I interviewed President Trump 19 times for my second book on his presidency, Rage. I had also interviewed him in 2016 when he was a presidential candidate. I decided to take this unusual step of releasing these recordings after relistening in full to all 20 interviews. As I listened to them again I was stunned by their relevance to understanding Trump. Relying on familiar devices – airing grievances, stoking divisions, repeating himself to a staggering degree, as if saying something often and loud enough will make something true – Trump uses his voice as a concussive instrument, pounding in the listener’s ear.

Shocking
An incredible insight into the mind and rantings of the world's most egotistical spoiled man baby. frightening that he was able to get anywhere near to the power he did. The lack of self awareness is astounding.

Amazing insight
An astonishing history of Trump by one of the best journalists of all time. The book gives an insight to the true story about Trump. The story is told by a hardworking humble Woodward.

Unbelievably crass dialogue with a head of state
The solipsism and outright childishness of Trump is the main feature of this historical artifact.
Trump comes across as a repetitive, narrow minded idiot. More infant than evil dictator. The ignorance and complete absence of empathy is stunning. He is disabled. Literally unable to put any kind of plan together, to offer any framework for his actions.
It’s mind boggling to imagine that this person was able to hold any kind of office. He barely functions.
It’s a terrifying record.

Slightly disappointed
The epilogue is the best part. Often Woodward and Trump are arguing at crossed hairs for instance when Bob is asking Trump about his ‘plan’ regarding the coronavirus crisis Trump is replying to his plan regarding his election plans. This happens constantly but Woodward barely reconciles this. Plus Bob doesn’t really stand up to Trump he could have challenged Trump much more. Many Opportunities missed to hold Trump to account. Still a great insight to Trumps megalomania and Narcissistic tendancies.

Heaven forfend he’s re-elected
Compelling in spite of the repetitiveness & crass grandiosity of 45. Bob Woodward has such patience with Trump’s rants & boasts. It’s an extraordinary relationship; Trump seems to need Woodward’s approval. Imagine the phone ringing at home & there’s Trump blethering on interminably & bombastically with the same old stories. Trump’s teetotal but he sounds like the boring old f**T everyone avoids in the pub. Except dangerous with it. He’s a security threat to USA. Surely that country has better than the two candidates for November 2024??

THE essential window into the 4yr nightmare of Trump’s presidency.
This replays huge chunks of the 20 recorded phone conversations BobW had with Trump peppered with commentary and checked facts. These were the basis of his second Trump book ‘Rage’.
This is gold dust if you want to understand Trump. He is unwisely completely candid here as he obviously reveres Bob and thinks he will convince him of his version of events. A deluded hope. He imagined that it confirms his historic importance that the great Bob Woodward is having these conversations with him. His appalling judgement is confirmed in allowing them to be recorded and be reproduced. Only we Trump dispairers benefit!
Trump’s repetition is tedious but illustrates how maddeningly, but perhaps effectively, he bulldozes through his point of view. Though he comes across as delusional “I’ve done more for the blacks than anyone, maybe even Lincoln, Bob” “I’ve done more in 3 years than anyone Bob” He repeats these so much (to avoid answering Woodward’s uncomfortable questions) it had me shouting out loud ‘shut up you XYZ!‘ in the street several times.
The audiobook format completely excels here despite the poor audio quality.
Make up your own mind by listening to the great man himself (as if it isn’t already made up that he is the most malign narcissistic psychopath imaginable).
Trump is obsessed by promoting HIS version of his presidency insisting to Bob, he was the best, Bob, the best.
This is not an easy listen, but boy is it a riveting listen.
