Summary

Men and women grieve differently. Though both feel the pain and sorrow that come with losing a spouse, widowers start dating much sooner than widows - usually within the first year of their wife's passing. While there's nothing wrong with dating again that quickly, widowers often get into relationships before they're emotionally ready to take that step. That causes problems for them and the women they're with.

That's where The Ultimate Dating Guide for Widowers comes in. Drawing on the success stories and learning experiences of Joe Biden, Thomas Edison, Pierce Brosnan, and Paul McCartney, this book specifically addresses questions, concerns, and needs of widowers, including:

  • How to know if you're really ready to date again
  • Overcoming feelings of guilt about starting another relationship
  • Balancing your dating life with the needs and wants of your children
  • How to make room in your heart for someone else

The Ultimate Dating Guide for Widowers is the definitive guide for widowers who are looking to sort out their conflicting emotions and avoid common pitfalls that come with dating the second time around. It's a must-listen for any man who's looking to ease the transition from an old life to a new one.

Some really good advice.

I really enjoyed this book and found it useful.

Narration could’ve been a little bit more expressive. Also I felt that the language a little too definite in places. Thoughts that women would have, rather than could have. It talks about removing things like photographs from display in your house or social media, but I personally know widows in successful second chapter relationships that have maintained those and their partner is very understanding. Also, while the author is keen to encourage honesty, which is good, it does get precariously close to talking about women like commodities at times. There is advice about not staying with the first person for the purposes of experience. Here’s the thing though, my late wife was the first woman I dated and she absolutely was right for me. I personally felt that some of the advice needed to be taken with a pinch of salt.

That said, it is excellent in most places. There is some real thought-provoking advice which draws on historical references as well. The adds an interesting element to the book also. Just over two hours long, it’s a good length for this type of book, good for a long walk or drive.

Incredibly helpful!

Truly very helpful!

Nothing quite prepares you for the loss of a spouse. Especially if only 10 days before, you were happily going through mundane activities of life together. Then, bam! It’s over. Then the grief. And then recovery. And just when you think you are making progress, it hits you all over again.

I got Abel‘a book because I’d started thinking about being with someone. Before that, I’d jumped the gun. Not dating, but blurting my heart and in so doing destroying friendships. Only then did I realise there was a whole lot more to this than just having “feelings”.

Abel’s book spoke to me like an older brother would. I stumbled on the book whilst researching business. It sounded interesting even if the title seemed a bit overly dramatic. Regardless, I figured, I’d give it a listen, and if unhelpful I’d stop. I finished the book, just now, in 3 goes. For the 2nd, I finished at 3:30 in the morning of a work day. Abel’s writing and reading is considered, insightful, sympathetic and yet firm.

Thank you Mr. Abel Keogh! God bless you!!
