Wonderful Funny Romance
I first listened to this audiobook back in May 2017, via the library’s rb digital app, and loved it so much that I ended up buying it from audible. I listened to it again later that year when I needed something fun and comforting to listen to. I listened to it for the third time last year and think I may listen to it again soon during these strange days!
I love everything about this audiobook, the story, the writing, the characters and the narration brought to life so amazingly by Penelope Rawlins.
This is actually the fourth book in the brilliant Charton Minister series, but unlike the previous books which are historical fiction, this is a contemporary tale.
As you can read in the synopsis above, the main characters Cat and Adam are both nursing broken hearts. Cat’s finance Jack has disappeared just as she’s won an all expenses paid luxury wedding package. Poor Adam’s girlfriend has, well, dumped him in a most embarrassing manner. So as you’d expect neither of them have any interest whatsoever in falling in love again, but then they meet when Adam needs to buy supplies from Cat’s work place, things start to happen between them.
I loved the romance in this story it’s so well done, and thinking about it as I’m writing this review really makes me smile. Cat and Adam are a lovely couple, who deserve to have love and kindness in their lives after being treated so horribly but they ex partners. All the way through this book I wanted them to be happy, and desperately wanted them to end up together, but as you’d expect, so many things got in their way.
As well as the romance angle there’s the hilarious story of Fanny Gregory, the PR woman behind the company providing the luxury wedding package that Cat won. This storyline made me laugh out loud all the way through the book, mostly because of the way Penelope Rawlins portrays Fanny. She’s brilliant and really made the character leap off the page, or should I say leap out of my headphones! 😀
If you’re looking for a lovely, funny, romantic audiobook that also includes a trip to Italy, I highly recommend this one.
