Summary
One summer morning, three little girls meet for the first time. By the end of the day, two will be charged with murder. Twenty-five years later, journalist Kirsty Lindsay is reporting on a series of sickening attacks on young female tourists in a seaside town when her investigation leads her to interview funfair cleaner Amber Gordon. For Kirsty and Amber, it's the first time they've seen each other since that dark day when they were just children. But with new lives - and families - to protect, will they really be able to keep their wicked secret hidden?

Excellent, soul searching story of right and wrong
Excellent narration, thought provoking and soul searching, what a great book. A few unanswered questions left me feeling slightly frustrated and the story was so tea I felt like googleing it. It changed my views of the press and of evil children.

Excellent book
This is my first book by Alex Marwood it will not be my last. I was hooked from the beginning and the added bonus was brilliant narration by Anna Bentinck.

Grim
I've never listened to a book that had such menace, and dark despair flowing all the way through it. It was like a BBC drama, "Boy A" with Andrew Garlfield.
You know that some girls did something when they were younger, each consecutive chapter drops more hints; ratcheting up the suspense. Meanwhile, present day in a seaside town, someone is murdering young girls - are the two crimes related?

Really enjoyable and thought provoking read
I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I have read two of Alex Marwood's books and I have not wanted either of them to end. The author brings real life to her characters, you go through their agonies with them any underneath always a thread of humour .

A compelling, thought provoking Novel
Would you listen to The Wicked Girls again? Why?
I listened to this book over two days and was totally absorbed by the storyline, the main characters and the subject of the book. Its certainly not a light hearted listen and touches on a very raw subject matter. The death of a child. I personally would not listen to this book again, although I am happy to purchase another by the same author.
Any additional comments?
This book tells the story from the point of view of the killers, on this basis alone it leaves you feeling troubled about your own reactions when you hear of such crimes. An extremely good novel, well written and beautifully narrated.

Even better on my second listen
This has turned out to be one of my favourite books - the story line unravels at a perfect pace and I find myself wanting to know more all the time. The narration is fantastic and the characters are really brought to life. I found myself changing my view of one of the characters towards the end ; I believe the clever unravelling of the details lead me to be much surprised by this one character.

Brilliant
I really enjoyed this book, really gripping story, and excellent narration. All the Alex Marwood books I’ve listened too, have been really good, but this one has been the best, I’m sad it’s ended, it’s going to be hard to find another to compare.

Brilliant first novel
I have just listened to this book for the second time and found it as compelling as the first and with the same outcome - I thought about it for several days. One can't say too much without giving away the quite convoluted plot but how they become 'wicked girls' and what happens to them in later life is fascinating. All the characters are very well rounded and believable. Anna Bentinck is one of the best readers Audible has, and I discovered this book by going through the list of what she has read. I see that one reader was disappointed by the book which I find hard to understand but I guess it depends on what you're looking for in the first place. This certainly doesn't fit into the crime genre - it's more concerned with the outcome of action and how that action is sparked off. If the book has a fault I would say that it's in the use of flashback so that it takes some pages to get into the swing of the story, and I think that maybe I got into it more quickly the second time because of that. I hope Alex Marwood will produce many more such books, as so many of our better writers are becoming elderly and we need new blood!
