Summary

Carole Seddon's son is soon to be married to Gaby. But Marie and Harold Martin seem desperate to keep plans for their daughter's big day as low-key as possible. After a quiet engagement party, Harold disappears...only to be found dead the next day in a burnt out car in Epping Forest.

Carole discovers that the Martins are hiding secrets that can be traced back 30 years, to the murder of Marie's best friend. Now the girl's killer has been released from prison and is back in his old stomping ground.

Fearing that the bride-to-be is his new target, Carole enlists the help of her friend Jude to unravel the Martin family's past before the wedding day is ruined.

Best so far.

Really enjoyed this book. Was a really good plot. Usual story line, will read. Not easy to predict the murderer. Better than some of the others. I would well recommend it

A very good cosy mystery

A very good cosy mystery, we get to learn more about Carole’s family. There is a good chance you guess who the villain is before it is revealed, but the ending is still very nice wrapped up.

The characters are now like friends!

I love all the characters in this book! I’ve listened to all of this series from the beginning so far and their inter relations bring such joy. You know how they will react to certain people and situations they are drawn that well.

The plot was good even though I had guessed the murderer early on. Listening to how it panned out was so entertaining! This was my most favourite to date!

Thank you Simon for reading it so well.

And, yes...

...another fun outing for Carole and Jude; another good story; another few snippets gleaned on the back stories of each; well narrated as ever.

A winner!

Another enjoyable story with Carol and Jude. Excitement and humour as we learn a little more about Carol's family and background. I love the relationship between the two ladies which often makes me smile and try to decide which of them I am most like!!! I did actually guess the outcome of this plot but that did not detract from the enjoyment.

Cosy murder mystery

I stumbled on these as I love the Charles Paris mysteries. It's great that they are a series and perfect as audio stories before bedtime or on a rainy afternoon. I particularly like that the characters are middle aged women and more rounded characters than the usual stereotypes. The stories are complete in themselves but added interest comes from additional revelations about the main protagonists' histories. Simon Brett conveys the characters so well in his reading.

Brilliant plot and characters

I love this series of books , a lighter crime novel but packed with well rounded characters that develop book after book. Clever plots that offer something different every time - no going over tired old plot twists here - and very well narrated by the author who sounds just like Simon Russell Beale , subtle and offering wonderful personality to the whole performance . I’m so glad he’s written a long series , kept me going through lockdown .

Another Feathering winner

I love these cosy South Downs murders. Carole and Jude plus Ted Crisp are well drawn characters and I feel I know them. This is the second time I have I have delved into the early novels in the series and I am still a fan. I intend to work my way through all of the books this winter to brighten my days.
