Reginald Hill - back to his best
A marvellous, intricate story that keeps one guessing until the end. Beautifully read by Jonathan Keeble - 16+ hours of real enjoyment that I did not want to finish.

Loved this book
What made the experience of listening to The Woodcutter the most enjoyable?
I downloaded this book around 6 months ago and have listened to it 3 times. Given it's a hefty tome, that shows how much I enjoyed listening and re-listening - each time picking up something different from the story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Woodcutter?
The imagery of Wilf's surroundings added great colour to the story.

Each of the lead characters are well formed and written with a sense of humour and fondness by the author. I'd be interested in hearing what Wilf and Snek got up to next.

A Woodcut Above
Have never read Hill before, not even heard of him actually. The review sounded to my liking and thought to give it a go. Hill has a story spread over four periods of a mans life. Darting back and forth over 4 decades of fabulously simple highs to terribly vicious lows. A bit of Bond in there perhaps, a smidge more Lovejoy (the books not the pale imitation TV show). The story kept me going for the majority and near the end where I felt I had all the answers, it turns out I didn't. Well read by Keeble, some very good characters, I liked Hollins (bless him) haha. So we have greed, betrayal, revenge, not as violent as it maybe deserved to be. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend as easy to listen to and easy enough to keep up. Ideal for queues in airports.

Superb!
out of all the audio books I've listened to, this is by far the best one yet. First class story, incredible narrator who kept me gripped to the very end I didn't want it to end.

really interesting twists
