About this listen

In late 1926, the newly married Daisy Dalrymple and Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard take an ocean voyage to America for their honeymoon. Daisy and Alec are accompanied by Daisy's childhood friend, Phillip Petrie; his wife, Gloria; and Gloria's father, American millionaire industrialist Caleb P. Arbuckle, and all are looking forward to a pleasant, uneventful trip.

But at the last minute they are joined by Arbuckle's new friend, Yorkshire millionaire Jethro Gotobed, and his new wife, Wanda - a showgirl whom all but Gotobed are convinced is a gold digger of the worst sort. Then, having barely lifted anchor, the ocean liner is beset by a series of suspicious accidents and deaths. With harsh weather and rough seas putting many out of commission due to seasickness - including Alec - it soon falls to Daisy to figure out what connection there might be between the seemingly unrelated incidents. Convinced that there's a murderer aboard ship, Daisy must unmask the culprit or culprits before she or anyone else falls victim.

A right riveting listen

A good book with an excellent twist. A brilliant listen whilst doing the tiling or driving in the car

much better narration. Thank god you have food dom

previous stories in the series have been appallingly narrated by an American lady who has no idea how to pronounce English. Lucy was miles better.

Worth a listen

A lovely mystery twist for a murder story, unfortunately the narrator gives uneducated voice for those who serve, in my experience those who serve the public can have accent but are always well spoken, bit petty I know but nonetheless irritating

Finally a decent narrator!!

Love this series of novels, but the narrators have been utterly disappointing. And the editing. Must be awful for the author to see what is done to her hard labour. But now, hurray, Lucy does it and everything is fine.

solid story lightly executed

entertaining story with attractive characters. satisfying plot, not particularly sophisticated or complex but enough to keep interest. read well with nice characterisation for audio...some accents a bit ropey, but didn't interfere with pleasure of listening. Daisy Dalrymple a pleasant series , period feel well enough delineated to make.me.curious for more.

Good story well told

Lucy Rayner does a decent job as narrator, which came as an enormous rellef as the narrators in the previous books in the series have been almost unbelievably bad (so bad that I could only listen to one of each).
The story is good, but with one unusual (for Carola Dunn) flaw - the crucial part of the villainy was rather obvious before I had read half the book. An enjoyable listen nonetheless.
