Summary

What secrets from the past was he about to uncover?

When a woman's skeleton is discovered in a shallow grave DCI Andy Gilchrist is tasked with finding her murderer. But a psychic's warnings and markings on a rusted cigarette lighter found among the rotted remains set Gilchrist off on a trail that will take him back 35 years back to his past and on course to find his brother's killer in a fatal hit and run accident.

When dental records from an extracted tooth force Gilchrist to confront the unthinkable - that his brother was her killer - he keeps his fears to himself, only to be suspended on suspicion of destroying evidence.

But Gilchrist battles on in his quest for answers. Who was the woman? Why was she murdered? And was the fatal hit and run really an accident?

One of the better stories in this series

Overall a good story except for the last 2 hours which were a struggle with multitude of names suddenly appearing to be thrown around to make things quite confusing.
4th book in this series (not in order) that I've listened to and it's quite shocking how stupid Andy is at the end of each to get himself caught up in a near death situation every time.

Great detective story

Really enjoyed listening to this series… this particular storyline was great.. 2 totally different cases but intertwined.. … good old fashioned detective work along with modern forensics.. good narration and thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book…

This is a greater series

Set on St Andrews this Scottish police series is exceptional. Great characters and terrific story lines. The Scottish
Landscape is wonderfully captured

Back on track

I reviewed book 2 with some negatives. Happy to say book 3 back on track. I didn't work the plot line out ahead of time and am now a bit addicted to the narrator. Am finding him very soothing!
Word overused in this one was haar- but that beats pubis as previously complained about.

Nicely wrapped up

I enjoyed this book more than the last one in the series. Even though it involved his family again because it was so far in the past it was satisfying to know that it was solved.
