Summary

A cocky minor league pitcher and a laid-back physical therapist…a dream team or a disaster?

Micah Warner is an asshole. Everyone knows it; hell, he knows it, but he’s focused on getting to the big leagues and earning the kind of paychecks that’ll help him take care of his struggling family. He can’t afford to get outed.

Justin Lamb is a romantic. Everyone loves him, but his job with the Cougars leaves a trail of heartbreak in his wake. Getting involved with a player is risky, but he makes an exception for the new hot-shot pitcher.

Their hooking up quickly develops into real feelings, but when Micah’s catastrophic shoulder injury threatens their careers and relationship, they have one choice to make.

Love or baseball?

Touch & Go contains a cocky pro-pitcher with a secret soft side, a physical therapist with a man-bun and a talent for dirty talk, meddling friends, and a whole lot of baseball.

Complex pseudo redemption story

Touch & Go is the third book in Brigham Vaughn’s Midwest Series and it presents the most complicated relationship yet. Micah appeared in the first two books and he was most definitely not a likable character. So Touch & Go is a Micah redemption story of sorts. Whether you think he’s fully redeemed himself by the end is likely subjective, but I can say that Micah shows a great deal of character growth, primarily due to Justin. This story presents an interesting dynamic between them. Like the first two books, the story is well-written, but I struggled with the relationship in this one.

James Edward Jones does a nice job with his narration. I do think it adds something to the story and helps bridge some of the detachment I was feeling towards Micah in particular. On the whole, it’s an enjoyable story although not my favorite of the series.

Angst and character redemption

Micah was such an unpleasant character in the two previous books in this series that I almost didn’t want to read his book at all but the author’s teaser (which suggested Micah had hidden depths) made me decide to try it and I was glad I did.

The audiobook was a pleasant way to revisit his and Justin’s story as I like the narrator’s voice.
I thought he did a good job showing the gradual development of their relationship as well as their confusion and hurt.

Beautiful journey

I had been looking forward to listening to this story as we meet Mica in the previous books in this series and he doesn't come across in a positive light so I was interested in hearing his story and it didn't disappoint. He puts a lot of pressure on himself and has a lot of issues to work through but meeting Justin helps him wanting to get better. I loved their connection. I really enjoyed listening to this 💜

Really Good

Touch and Go is the third book in the Midwest Series, but it can be read as a standalone. I suggest reading the other two books in the series first because some of the other characters make an appearance. This is also my favorite book out of the series so far. I was so interested in Micah’s story, especially knowing how he’s acted in the previous books, and this book does not disappoint. I found Micah to be an interesting and complex character who had to face some hard truths before he could move on and find happiness. Justin was also a really interesting character and the perfect match for Micah. The audiobook was narrated by James Edward Jones who did a great job. I was instantly pulled into the story and finished the book in one day.

Brilliant book, recommended to everyone!

Books I've read so far, last book in series next! I would recommend this series to everyone. It reminds me of my own progression into letting people into my life. My boss said that he had no idea whatsoever, and would never have guessed had I not told him. I did so in case of potential issues at work in the future. Yes, people are more accepting but not everyone. I did have a problem in one place I worked but my colleagues in the department soon shut it down, and I hadn't even told them. I'd been spotted coming out of a gay pub and club one Saturday night. But that worked for the good. Not every individual is as accepting.

This series is, in my mind, more than worthy of being made into films!

Sparks fly between closeted athlete and team PT...

Closeted minor league rookie baseball player Micah’s life is so compartmentalized that a relationship is out of the question – the most he has managed in the past have been hookup scenarios that haven’t turned out well. He let his heart get involved, once, and it was a disaster. So why does he think a friends-with-benefits arrangement with Justin, his team’s physical therapist, will work out any better? Especially when his focus needs to be entirely on performing well, staying under the gaydar and making it to the majors. He doesn’t have time for a tricky shoulder, making nice or making friends, and he definitely didn’t plan on catching feelings for Justin. While each of the Midwest stories can stand alone, Micah is well known to readers of the previous books in the series, and for them especially his story will resonate. I loved it for many reasons, but perhaps as an out-for-you redemption arc most of all. The Midwest boys have each gotten under my skin, and Micah was the perhaps the most sneaky, since my initial dislike for him was transformed quietly and stealthily, until I was as invested in his chance at a HEA as I wanted him to be. James Edward Jones is the perfect narrator for this series; his voicing of these characters is nuanced and pleasing in every way.

Realising What's Important.

MM, Sports, Age Gap Romance. A great listen, a fantastic story with twists and turns in the plot as Micah battles to be himself whilst playing Pro ball. Faultless narration by James Edward Jones. Really enjoyed listening to their story.

Great sports romance

I enjoy sports romances that focus on characters who are physical therapists as I find that job fascinating. Also, those stories tend to have an element of hurt/comfort which is a favorite trope. This story about a PT and a pitcher with serious shoulder issues checked all the right boxes for me in the perfect way. James Edward Jones' performance was spot on. He captured the absolute devastation Micah felt when he was injured, the realistic response of Justin and the ease of their bantering relationship pre-injury and the much more serious developments post. High angst in places but an excellent listen.

Complex and beautiful

I was really looking forward to listening to this and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Micah and Justin take us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It’s sexy and incredibly real - James Edward Jones brings all the complexity of Brigham Vaughn’s characters to life. Stellar book and a great performance.

The redemption of Micah

The redemption of Micah. It was a long and tortuous road. Justin had the patience of a saint, it would have been so easy to give up on Micah with the way he lashed out so often.
But those glimpses of who Micah could be were a perfect balance. And I think the narrator helped with that, giving nuance to Micah's action. I loved catching up with the other couples too and the way the story overlapped with book 2. I also liked that Micah had friends even when he obviously thought that he didn't.

Highly recommended to round out the series.
