Summary

Former tour manager and plane crash survivor Ron Eckerman reveals the rigors of life on the road as Lynyrd Skynyrd takes the world by storm in 1976, and the ironic turn of events preceding the tragic plane crash in 1977. Ron narrated this audio originally in 2011.

Ron lost a one year battle with acute myeloid leukemia in May of 2014. He asked just a few

weeks prior to his passing to re-release the paperback, add photos, and donate any proceeds to the Leukemia Foundation. A book about Ron's cancer battle, The Last Tour: Love, Laughter, and Tears was released in November of 2014 by his wife and caregiver, about his courageous battle against leukemia. He never gave up hope and he never stopped smiling. It is also available on Amazon as in paperback and Kindle, and will soon be released in audio. The Last Tour: Love, Laughter, and Tears by Carolyn Day, and proceeds will also go to the Leukemia Foundation.

Triumph and tragedy

If you're a fan of Skynyrd then you will find this account of their life on the road entertaining and interesting. Written and read with enthusiasm and skill by Ron Eckerman who was their tour manager at the time of the fatal plane crash, but who was one of the lucky ones to survive relatively unscathed. There is so much humour and colour in this book that you just have to get it and enjoy it. Though there is of course this sadness too that this great band loved by so many was cruelly devastated whilst still in its prime.

Great insight into life in Lynyrd Skynyrd

Great inside view of life in the road with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Some truly wild and hair raising stuff! Hilarious and also tragic. This in indeed Rock’n’Roll!

close, personal & heartfelt.

narration quite robotic but great story with reasonable amount of detail. would have liked more detail on band members themselves rather than the machinations of the multiple gigs.
