Summary
Based on the true stories of the two US Navy Seals operating behind enemy lines in Vietnam with the super top-secret unit MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam, Special Operations Group)
US Navy Seal Lieutenant Tom Norris, on three separate occasions over a four-day period, with no sleep, went behind enemy lines to rescue two downed air force pilots. Using stealth tactics, he was able to get though or around hundreds of North Vietnamese to rescue one pilot. The second pilot - hungry, thirsty, and having lost 40 pounds - was disoriented and unable to help in his rescue. Norris, with the help of one Vietnamese Seal, was able to safely bring the pilot back inside US lines.
Six months later, US Navy Seal Mike Thornton was on a top-secret mission with Lieutenant Norris behind enemy lines. Chinese junks dropped them off 10 miles north of their target. After swimming to shore, the team conducted a recon mission but was discovered the following morning by North Vietnamese. Fighting their way to the South China Sea, they began swimming out to sea. All were wounded, but Thornton, himself wounded and using a breast stroke, was able to tow or push the whole team out to sea until they were rescued.
This was the first time in the history of the Medal of Honor that one recipient got the medal for rescuing another recipient - and each was able to witness the other's ceremonies.

Very good
It is something else to hear the voice of a 1-0 read the stories of other unbelievably brave soldiers and their endeavours. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, having listened to a lot of other books and podcasts about MAC-V SOG and Vietnam veterans.
Thank you so much for your service and your job writing, reading and publishing this excellent book Keith McKim.
Love from Norway.

Blah Blah Blah
Disappointing, occasional inaccuricies and monotone narration made this a less than spellbinding experience. I found it difficult to engage with the narration which was also very muffled, otherwise it would have been acceptable

Amazing.
The bravery and determination of the SOG guys mentioned in this book is almost beyond belief. Well narrated, enlightening and well worth the listen.

Amazing stories
Too short if anything wanted to hear more about SOG experiences and lead up to operations. Truly incredible stuff!

high action, accessible read
Insightful look into the American military perspective of Vietnam. Although I don't agree with the politics, this was an excellent listen. The writing style is simple, impactful, and often hilarious. The Vietnamese guerillas are frequently referred to as "the bad guys". Americans opposing the war are callef "hippies" and "youthful idiots". The narration by the author is spot on - a martial story told by a martial man.

A highly detailed account
This has given me more information on an era I knew little of. I'd seen the Bat 21 film and found the details describing the real event fascinating.
The people described in this account are truly hero's.

I'd be interested but
I'd be interested but Mr Keith McKim is not a professional narrator. The story seemed intresting however I kept catching myself daydreaming whilst listening to the book and missing quite a bit of information so I abandoned not knowing who what when most of the time.
