Summary
In a world of suppressed magic, I’m an Unknown. Deadly power, little control. I’m only alive because I pay a blood sorcerer to keep me hidden. But when he comes to collect on the debt I can’t pay, one of his goons slams me with a deadly curse. Suddenly, I’m out of options and out of time.
When I’m given a rare chance to join the secretive Undercover Protectorate and train at their academy to become an investigator, I have a way to hunt the cure for the curse. They have resources I don’t. Easy, since I’m broke.
Seems like a good plan, right? At least, until they tell me Cade will be joining me on my hunt for the Blood Sorcerer. He's an actual Celtic war god - and the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. The catch? I can’t let him know that I’m an Unknown, or I’m out on my ass and deader than Hades.

Good book but was ruined by narrator
The narrator was lackluster and sounded depressive. I felt like she was putting the intonation on the wrong words and stopping at the wrong time to take a breath. I believed she could do better but she is unexperienced.

Unbelievably Awful
The author needs to come up with a new idea instgead of trotting out exactly the same scenario as in the previous three series. It's increadibly formulaic and wasn't so good the first time around (nor in any of the books that so many mnay many other authors have the same formuila in)
- I must keep my True Nature and Huge Power secret.
- I'm forced bu circumstance to take part in a life-threateningly dangerous mission with a big, arrogant hugely, massively, unbelievably, fantasticallly, wonderfully, powerdul man (honestly the point is really that belaboured in the book) - Oh and, by the way, he's an actual god.
- He's so good looking I can barely think about anything else but how hot he is.
- I mustn't be attracted to him, or get close to anyone.
- **{Hearts, flowers, and twittery birds}** Through adversity we find we're destined for each other.
**{GACK!!!!}**
Perhaps this sort of predictable repetitiveness is your idea of a good read/listen - in which case, ave at it and enjoy, but I can't really say I'd recommend it to anyone.
And, a point particular to the audiobook version - They're all living in Scotland, yet not a single character can pronounce Edinburgh, despite their local pub being there....
