Summary

Im Oderbruchdorf Tschechin lebt der Wirt Abel Hradscheck über seine Verhältnisse. Er trinkt, spielt und überhäuft seine Frau mit teuren Geschenken. Hochverschuldet bringt ihn der Besuch des Weinhändlers Szulski, der auf sein Geld drängt, in eine prekäre Lage. Als Szulski am nächsten Tag in einem Sturm ums Leben kommt, gerät Hradscheck daher im Dorf schnell unter Verdacht. Ist er schuldig oder war es ein Unglück? Hradschecks Nachbarn werfen schließlich einen Blick unter seinen Birnbaum und was sie dort finden, gibt dem Schicksal des Wirts eine überraschende Wendung.

Wunderbare Charaktere und Kolorit

Leider meint der Vorleser, er müsse lange Passagen mit wichtigen Informationen in Plattdeutsch lesen, was ich als Nicht- Norddeutsche höchstens halb verstehe. Ärgerlich
