Summary
Indies Today 2020 Best Fantasy Award
The world will change forever....
While preparing for the birth of his first child, Chrys Valerian is tasked with uncovering the group responsible for a series of missing threadweavers - those able to see and manipulate threadlight. With each failure, the dark voice in his head grows louder, begging to be released.
A young girl from a secret city in the center of the Fairenwild veers off course to explore the streets of Alchea, never expecting that her journey would end in chains.
Far in the deserts to the south, a young man's life changes after he dies.
When Chrys learns who is responsible for the missing threadweavers, they come for him and his family. He must do everything in his power to protect those he loves, even if it means trusting strangers or, worse, the growing voice in his mind.
Together, these three will change the world - whether they intend to or not.

Enjoyable
Was enjoyable enough but story never really clicked with me. Have to say although quite good the narrator was very heavy on the gravitas, with most lines delivered with solemn reverence. This equally amused and irritated me. But don’t regret using a credit on this book

A great story and a great narrator
It certainly wears it's influences on it's sleeve but none the less was a very enjoyable listen. The story felt like it wanted to be much grander than the runtime would allow but can be forgiven for a first book in a series. Other than a small lull after the intro it was well paced and thankfully the extra POVs only added to this rather than dragging to a halt. Plenty of mysteries yet to uncover so looking forward to more!

Great first entry to an interesting series
To be honest I was hooked after 1.5 chapters. Loved (most of) the characters. They are well written and interesting. They all have a well-defined place in the world and we are just "thrown in the middle" of their lives. I really appreciate that one of the main characters is married and we get to see his and his family's journey.
The magic system is great. It reminded me of Brandon Sanderson's magic systems. It is an already established system that the characters know and use and we learn about it as we go. The plot is also interesting and fast paced.
My only issue with the book was that it was too short so world building and character development are limited. There were certain things I wouldn't have minded knowing more about. It definitely feels like an introduction to a grand story. The ending leaves you with more questions than it answered so I am really looking forward to diving into the next installment.
I feel like I need to mention the narrator. His character voices are great and I loved them. But his narrator voice is....breathy (for lack of a better word) which makes everything sounds sooooo dramatic. I listened on 1.20x and it was ok but still noticeable.
All in all great book! Highly recommend!
