Summary
Adapted from a screenplay by award-winning screenwriter Jason McCulloch, Voices is a tense, multi-genre debut perfect for fans of thriller, suspense/mystery, detective, and police procedural.
One week after his ninth birthday, Allan Abrams knew he wanted to be a father. Four decades and countless heartbreaks later, his dream is about to come true. All he and his wife, Clara, must do is navigate the final stretch of yet another risky pregnancy, this one complicated by their strained marriage, a pandemic, escalating political and racial tensions, and a far deadlier threat that is about to emerge.
Allan and Clara’s holiday plans include a pantry full of comfort food and an endless supply of Christmas movies. But those plans are derailed when police ask Allan, a psychiatrist, to help solve a puzzling case. A death row inmate was brutally slain in his locked cell. Before police were aware of the inmate’s death, an elderly, homeless man confessed to the murder using details only the killer could know.
Allan quickly determines the old man is suffering from powerful delusions, including the belief that the current chaos in the world is not random or unrelated, but rather, the start of a horrifying chapter for humanity. It’s not long before strange coincidences and odd occurrences have Allan wondering if there might be more to the old man - and his bizarre story - than meets the eye. Driven by an increasingly intense compulsion he doesn’t understand, Allan delves deeper into the mind of the enigmatic old man only to dig up more questions.
Ultimately, answering those questions will force Allan to face an unimaginable choice. A choice that could jeopardize his final chance to be a father and threaten everyone he loves.
