About this listen
The Sunday Times number one best seller
For more than 25 years, David Nott has taken unpaid leave from his job as a general and vascular surgeon with the NHS to volunteer in some of the world’s most dangerous war zones. From Sarajevo under siege in 1993 to clandestine hospitals in rebel-held eastern Aleppo, he has carried out lifesaving operations and field surgery in the most challenging conditions, and with none of the resources of a major London teaching hospital.
The conflicts he has worked in form a chronology of 21st-century combat: Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Darfur, Congo, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Gaza and Syria. But he has also volunteered in areas blighted by natural disasters, such as the earthquakes in Haiti and Nepal.
Driven both by compassion and passion, the desire to help others and the thrill of extreme personal danger, he is now widely acknowledged to be the most experienced trauma surgeon in the world. But as time went on, David Nott began to realise that flying into a catastrophe - whether war or natural disaster - was not enough. Doctors on the ground needed to learn how to treat the appalling injuries that war inflicts upon its victims. Since 2015, the foundation he set up with his wife, Elly, has disseminated the knowledge he has gained, training other doctors in the art of saving lives threatened by bombs and bullets.
War Doctor is his extraordinary story.
This audio edition includes an interview between David and Eleanor Nott.

Wow. This is incredible.
This is a quite alarming and excellent book by a quietly brilliant man. We are so lucky to have him. I have learnt so much and yes, whoever you are, do buy this book. Prepare to be left haunted, though.

An inspirational man in a desperately cruel world
Mr David Nott is an incredible man and I am truly in awe of his bravery, tenacity and surgical skill. This book is not an easy listen as it describes a broken world, but there are some amazingly positive stories. I fully recommend this book.

David Nott is as impressive as he is humble
The book was not what I expected, it was better. David is a humble guy, He might dress in green hospital scrubs, but below it sits a man with the heart of a hero. For what he has done and continues to do is nothing short of inspirational.
David has been at the centre of most of the worlds war zones over the last 20 years, doing his thing. that is to say, saving lives, teaching other doctors new and better techniques and making the world a better place. there are not enough David Nott's in this world, not just because of his medical skills but because of his drive, commitment, honesty and ability to be humble.

Incredible story of an incredible man
A deeply engaging and fascinating account of a doctor who has lived an incredible life. His story is amazing and is told with unflinching honesty, including his own mistakes and failings. I highly recommend, but be prepared that some of the stories he shares are very upsetting.

Wow this is inspirational
This has to be the most inspiring book I have ever listened to. It is written and narrated by a true hero who I’d love to meet one day.
Everyone should read this especially those who inspire to be a doctor themselves one day.
We need more David Nott’s in the world.

Incredible
I was genuinely very sad when this book ended. I was so immersed in David Notts stories that I felt like I was listening to a friend telling me these fascinating stories. I highly recommend this book.
