Summary

In the UK it is is said that one in four people has a mental health problem. This means that three in four don't. This is simply not true. We all have our screwups. Maybe what we should say is that one in four people is currently experiencing some kind of mental health problem that is getting in the way of their day-to-day life.

In this down-to-earth, jargon-free book, Dawn uses her experience from working with hundreds of clients as a therapist, and from her own abusive childhood, to explore the problems we all experience as adults. She will help you realize that we are all screwed up and that it doesn't stop you functioning.

She will help you understand where common problems such as depression, anxiety, and addictions come from and give you some approaches to overcome them.

If you have a problem with a car, you get a mechanic to help you. If you have a problem with a muscle, you go to a physiotherapist. Why is it when you have a problem with your head you assume you should be able to work it out on your own? Everyone is screwed up. Most people function perfectly well despite their screwups.

A great book for the mind

A moving personal account of why we all have challenges and so see beyond to the causes. I liked redefining the '1 in 4 have mental health problems' to 25% have problems that are affecting them right now.

This booked saved me

Well written and read by the author herself. Very moving story, with lots of information on how the brain works. There were a few lightbulb moments and lots of learning points I took from it and remind myself of daily. I was in a very bad place when I read this book and I honestly believe it pulled me through.
