Summary

Rob Bell’s bestseller ‘Love Wins’ tackled subjects church leaders have been afraid to touch. Now he asks the biggest question faced by any Christian: how do we know God?

Although 2000 years of Christendom has seen huge changes in our broader understanding of our place in the world, belief remains rooted in archaism and tradition. Rob Bell believes we need to drop our primitive, tribal views of God and instead embrace the God who wants us to reach the potential within us; people who understand their universe of quarks and quantum string dynamics, but who recognise our fundamental need for stories of heroes and sacrifice and profound longing for a guiding force larger than ourselves.

‘What We Talk About When We Talk About God’ will reveal that God is not in need of repair to catch him up with today’s world, so much as we need to discover the God who goes before us and beckons us forward. A book full of mystery, controversy, and reverence, ‘What We Talk About When We Talk About God’ promises not to disappoint.

Not Just for Christians!

A great book on understanding some things that are beyond this world. Understanding how science and Christianity should be embraced together. A great book for all even those who aren't Christians! Ill come back to this one again!

Worthy of repeated study

I enjoyed listening to this. It’s a refreshing view of God and Jesus Christ. I’m not overconfident on the theology that I think he embraces vis-à-vis the creation and considering the book of Genesis as poetry! (But I may have that wrong. This book needs to be revisited often).

I like what he has to say about how we represent (or quite frankly, misrepresent), God. There was some pretty impressive molecular science that admirably ‘explains’ the miracles of God and, given that my science is rudimentary at best, sounded very credible to me. (If only my science teachers at school could have broken down basic science in that way)…

I think that this will appeal to both Christians (of all persuasions) and skeptics alike. The aim of the book is not to convince you either way on the existence of God. This is a conversation that Christians would like to be able to have with non Christians, in a conversational, non confrontational way, in a Bar or Coffee shop, on a Sunday afternoon.

It’s very practical and humane. It’s definitely NOT preachy. Definitely worth a revisit. Well presented and narrated, by the author.
