Summary
After the great civil war, many of the survivors sought a safe haven in the promised land called Texas.
Some stayed to help a struggling republic grow into the great state it was destined to become.
Some looked to steal and plunder, ever on the outside of the law, while others wanted to simply be left alone. These were the men who would seek solitude in the great mountains of the west. A few stayed in Texas to trap in the Big Bend.
Others wanted to see the high country of the Rocky Mountains. This is the story of one of those men.
Sam Raines would follow the wild and raging Rio Grande from its entrance to the canyons of Big Bend to its start in the San Juan mountains of Colorado territory.
Along the way he would find many challenges.
