Summary
Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Without a Trace.
A compelling story of courage, friendship and love by international number-one best-selling author Lesley Pearse, read by Emma Powell.
Coronation Day, 1953.
In the Somerset village of Sawbridge, young shopkeeper Molly Heywood slips away from the celebrations to her friend's cottage and makes a shocking discovery: Cassie is dead, and her six-year-old daughter, Petal, has vanished without a trace.
In her grief Molly seeks help from her childhood friend, George, now the village policeman, but no one can find Petal. The only clue is a letter from London, where Cassie once lived.
Despite George's reluctance and her growing feelings for him, Molly resolves to go to London in the hope of discovering the missing child.
Arriving in the big city, Molly quickly learns it's a dangerous place for a country girl on her own. But there's hope, too - in the Blitz-ruined East End, she unexpectedly finds friendship with strangers from Cassie's past and, with handsome, mysterious workman Charley, the possibility of something more.
However, the closer Molly gets to the truth, the more perilous her journey becomes. She has given up everything - her home, happiness, and a chance at love - all to find Petal. But is she also risking her life?
From the number-one UK best-selling author Lesley Pearse comes Without a Trace, a gripping story of bravery, secrets and love.
Pearse's novels have sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Her 17 most recent books, including - Forgive Me, The Promise, and Belle have all been huge best sellers. Lesley lives in Devon and has three daughters and three grandchildren.

Disappointing
What was most disappointing about Lesley Pearse’s story?
The story meanders around a series of events that seem to have little relationship to one another. The characters are unbelievably dull and didn't engage my emotions at all. I found Molly too good to be true. She doesn't have enough strength of character to make her believable.
Which character – as performed by Emma Powell – was your favourite?
None.
If this book were a film would you go see it?
No. The storyline is too weak.

Great read
Would you consider the audio edition of Without a Trace to be better than the print version?
I have not read it in print version. Really enjoyed the audible book, relaxing to listen and escape into another work. Hearing the story narrated makes you feel so involved with the story.
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed the historical story with such great description. It had twists that were unexpected so there was no predictability.
What does Emma Powell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Total relaxation and love being able to listen in the car while I am driving.

Well written but sweet characters not for me
The protagonist, Molly, is a saint and revered and admired by all who meet her. Apparently. The story progressed with lots of twists and turns but each time Molly the Martyr was badly treated by someone then to be told she's wonderful and an inspiration really did make me cringe. And don't get me started on her quest for "Petal".
Well written and well performed but far too sickly sweet for me.
