THIS IS ONE HELL OF A STORY.

IT’S JUST NOT HERS TO TELL.

When failed writer June Hayward witnesses her rival Athena Liu die in a freak accident, she sees her opportunity… and takes it.

So what if it means stealing Athena’s final manuscript?

So what if it means ‘borrowing’ her identity?

And so what if the first lie is only the beginning…

Finally, June has the fame she always deserved. But someone is about to expose her…

What happens next is entirely everyone else's fault.

Utterly compelling

I was in a reading lull and then I listened to this and I couldn’t stop listening. It’s so well written and the narration is perfection. Recommending this book to everyone I know. The pacing is perfection, the story compelling, the over arching themes so interesting. I didn’t think I’d enjoy a book with a protagonist I disliked but it works so well.

Unputdownable

Fantastic listen, would highly recommend! The story is largely a single person monologue / narration, and yet it’s fantastic and I could not stop listening.

Predictable

Predictable mostly but I was intrigued as to how it would end.
Seems I wasn’t quite as keen as most others

Three hours too long

The story is interesting, the characters nauseating. The story clips along to begin with but as it goes round in circles, the message is done to death. The last three hours are so over contrived, it loses all believability and momentum.

Excellent narration

This is a riveting story that you must keep listening to just to see how it plays out. It’s brought to life fantastically by the very talented voice actress.

Interesting story and perfect narration

Interesting storyline, I would love to hear what happened next with Juniper.
And I loved narration: clear pronunciation, different energy for different characters- great work!

The perfect narrator for this story!

This book is divisive: you’ll either adore it or hate it. I found June a mesmerisingly unreliable narrator, watching her attempting to justify her horrid decisions was fascinating, and I loved learning more about the publishing industry. Can safely say I’ve never “read” anything like this before.

The narration was perfect!

Not my type of book

I found this whole story tedious - a bit like t having to listen to that early morning presenter on radio 2!
It just went on and on and on.
How it won an award at the Hay Festival, I can’t really understand. I stuck it out to the end but it didn’t get any better.
