Summary

Mo Collins, the reluctant hero, has sailed around the country on board the replica pirate ship, the Viva Ancora, and now he finds himself only miles from his childhood home. But now the world has gone to hell. Hordes of naked, blue, biting zombies have flooded the now dead Alabama lake town. Mo and his only surviving shipmate, Crow, are surviving. They fish and watch the monsters roam the night; seeking untainted flesh and leaving a disgusting mess in their wake. But when a lone survivor stumbles upon Mo and Crow they gain a new crew member but also find much needed direction. The new comer, Smokes, will change Mo's view of this zombie infested world forever.

As reality mimics fiction, an ever growing cast of crazy characters play out their role carving out an island sanctuary in a plague ridden world. The Expert, The Tech, The Oracle, The Sacrifice, The Old Friend, plus many more... Join us on this wild ride where the fish bite, the Zombies bite…sometimes life bites.

Welcome aboard, friend, to Zombie Lake.

Great book

The first this thing that jumped out on me on this book was the narrator, I just made me smile, it is full of life and makes you want to listen to the story, this book is not for the easily offended, you have been warned lol but if you want a great shit kicking story for the alabama with blue stinky zombies this is the one for you

Really enjoyed it, down to earth

First book I have listened to from Mr Bonds and it was a pleasure :) Nice to hear a story that's down to earth with the characters - I could relate to the main guy and I had a damn good chuckle too. Narrator was a good choice :D

Couldn't get into it.

Struggled to listen to it all and it's only about 8 hours I think.
Nothing much happening, won't be getting the rest in the series.

Highly Recommended

This was a great story that kept me rapt from start to finish. It had an interesting take on zompoc movies and the narrator was entertaining too listen too. I'm definitely getting the next in the series.

Funny and clever

I laughed out loud within a few minutes of the start of the book and thought 'ok, I'm going to like this'. The narrator has good tone, pace and a nice even volume. S.W. Salzman makes it easy to tell when the narrative belongs to different characters and although the accent took a bit of getting used to (I think that has more to do with me being British than anything else) I found it an easy listen.

As for the story, I found some parts hilarious and I can totally relate to Mo. As for Smokes, well, you can't help but love the guy. There's a good theory about the zombies and the fact that Javan Bonds takes the mickey out of the usual stereotypes is done really well.

If you have a long drive or a day to yourself, give this a go. I really enjoyed it.

Fantastic characters... and pop culture references

I loved the way the characters all fitted together and then pop culture references were excellent... I laughed at quite a few places with Mo’s musing on their situation.

I thought it got a little silly at the end, but it fitted and didn’t enjoy my reading of a great addition to the Zompoc culture...

The narrators voice threw me for a short while and it took a moment to get used to... but once I was into it... his voice was used to great effect.

A worthy 4 star review for a great book
