  • Summary

  • The stories of Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty are classic fairy tales that have been passed down through various oral traditions, but their most well-known versions were collected and written by different authors in different times. The most famous version of Snow White was written by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm (The Brothers Grimm), two German scholars and folklorists who included it in their collection of fairy tales (entitled Children’s and Household Tales but now known as Grimm’s Fairy Tales) in 1812. The versions of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty most of us know today were written by Charles Perrault, a French author, in his collection Histoires ou contes du temps passé (Tales of Times Past) in 1697. These stories have evolved over centuries through different cultures and storytellers, but these written versions are the ones that most strongly influence modern adaptations. Walt Disney turned these fairy tales into timeless animated classics beginning in 1937 with the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In 1950, the Walt Disney studios released Cinderella followed by Sleeping Beauty in 1959. While the original tales often had darker, more ambiguous endings, Disney emphasized happy endings where good triumphs over evil. Robert Scott the award winning British playwright combines these timeless fairy tales into a satirical comedy sketch called A Charming Affair in which ”happily ever after” is turned on its head when Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty discover they are all married to the same man…Prince Charming. This Naples Players Radio Theatre production features the vocal talents of: Debera Millstein as Snow White, Judy Scribner as Cinderella, Kelly Altemeir as Sleeping Beauty and Kip Jones as the waiter.
