    In Episode 40 of Season 3 of "A Conversation With Brian," Brian continues his conversation with Jennifer Lempp from Episode 39. Brian adds Jennifer's coauthor, Skip Tyler, to their upcoming book Math Workshop, Grades 6-12.

    Skip Tyler most recently retired after 31 years in public education as the High School Mathematics Educational Specialist for Henrico County Public Schools in VA. His responsibilities included supporting mathematics instruction and providing professional development and coaching for administrators and teachers in his district. Impacting over 25,000 students, Skip worked to ensure that best practices are being utilized, monitored, and reinforced in all classrooms.

    He earned a BS in Mathematics with an Art minor from Virginia Tech and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech. In addition, Skip is a National Board Certified Teacher endorsed in Adolescent and Young Adult Mathematics. He has presented on mathematics instruction at the national, state, and local level and is actively involved in leadership positions in his state and regional mathematical organizations.

    As a high school math teacher for over 18 years, his passion was teaching Algebra 1. Skip was selected as the Teacher of the Year for his school, district, and region and was a finalist for Virginia’s Teacher of the Year. His experience as a successful classroom teacher and administrator during his 31-year career in public education provides him with a toolkit of effective instructional best practices that are focused on student understanding and comprehension.

    Dr. Jennifer Lempp is the author of Math Workshop: Five Steps to Implementing Guided Math, Learning Stations, Reflection, and More. This book is a practical resource meant to support teachers with strategies and structures to help create a learning environment where students are engaged in purposeful mathematics experiences.

    Jennifer consults with schools and districts around the country, providing professional development on mathematics content and instructional practices. Additionally, she supports school leaders on the development of mathematics professional learning and school improvement plans.

    Jennifer has experience teaching at both the elementary and middle school levels, and she served as a math coach and district leader for many years. Jennifer is a Nationally Board certified teacher in Early Adolescence mathematics, and in her 20+ years in education has found joy in the teaching of both students and teachers.

    Jennifer holds a Bachelor’s in elementary and special education from Duquesne University and a Master’s degree in education from North Carolina Central University. She earned a K-8 Mathematics Specialist endorsement through her coursework at George Mason University and her Administration and Supervision certificate from Virginia Commonwealth University. She most recently earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia.
