All About Agatha Christie

By: All About Agatha (Christie)
  • Summary

  • All About Agatha is a podcast all about, well, Agatha. Agatha Christie, of course: the Queen of Crime, a real-life Dame of the British Empire, and author of sixty-six mystery novels that spanned the Twentieth Century, defining a genre. For five years, Catherine Brobeck and Kemper Donovan revisited these novels in publication order, ranking them according to pre-set criteria (plot, character, etc.). Tragically, Catherine Brobeck passed away at the end of 2021. Since then, Kemper has completed the podcast's ranking project, and now contents himself with celebrating the greatness of Christie by attempting to solve the ultimate mystery where she is concerned. Why Christie--and Christie alone--endures as powerfully as she does.

  • A Special Christmas Episode: Promotion in the Highest by Agatha Christie Mallowan (with Rev. Dr. Sarah Hinlicky Wilson). . . and Some Holiday Poems, Too!
    Dec 22 2024

It's always a joy to have the Reverend Doctor Sarah Hinlicky Wilson on the show to explain to us what the heck Agatha Christie Mallowan is getting at in the extremely personal and extremely Christian short stories she wrote within her Star Over Bethlehem and Other Stories collection. Happy holidays to all who celebrate; we certainly know that Agatha Christie did!

Please note there are a few minor spoilers for Passenger to Frankfurt littered throughout our discussion, which I did not note at the top of the episode. But there is an argument to be made that this novel is un-spoilable, since it barely makes any sense.... (I get to be cheeky around the holidays.)

  • Beware Poppy and Mandragora: Within a Wall by Agatha Christie (with Guest Co-Host Michelle Kazmer)
    Nov 27 2024

It was a joy to welcome Dr. Michelle Kazmer back on the podcast to discuss an early and unusual Christie short story that contains echoes of so much of what we love about Christie overall. For those in the United States who may be feeling a bit fatigued from all the tryptophan consumed this holiday weekend, just be thankful it's nothing compared to the "sleepytime" embrace of one Isobel Loring....

Worthwhile State of the Ranking

It's very entertaining to listen to two knowledgeable people talking about how they feel about Agatha Christies Oeuvre. Especially with John Curran's particular opinions. Is this truly the last State of the Ranking? Who knows! Enjoyable listening anyway!

Enjoyable for fans of Christie

I’m slowly working my way through these podcasts & laughing at how familiar the books all sound. I’ve read all her books except Passenger to Frankfurt & she is probably my favourite writer.

Definitely worth a listen

A real delight for anyone who has ever read or watched an Agatha Christie. Pace is lovely... enough information that you don't need to be a Christie expert but also discussion and new ways of looking at things to make more familiar texts seem fresh. The presentation is warm and engaging. Recommend.

Another great podcast

A great listen for fans of Agatha Christie and as always learnt something new. Good to see coverage of the lesser known short stories with opinion delivered by some of the most knowledgeable experts in the field. Ably led by the ever entertaining Kemper Donovan.

A delightful podcast for fans of Agatha Christie

I started listening to Agatha Christie audiobooks during the pandemic so I was pleased to find this podcast. The two lovely hosts review and rank all of Agatha Christie's novels and short stories in chronological order of when they were written, one per podcast episode.

They provide interesting facts and anecdotes along the way about how the stories came to be written, how good or bad the TV and film adaptations were, and what the clues can help you to solve the mysteries.

I have listened to about 30 of these episodes so far and they have been delightful.

Papa Poirot would approve!
