  • TN Highway Safety Office with Tips for Fall Travels
    Sep 1 2024

Anna talks with two people from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office: Arriale Tabson, Public Information Officer, and Joel Brisson, Law Enforcement Liaison. Joel discusses the department's efforts to seek input about people's use of streets and sidewalks, finding that most people don't use crosswalks (there aren't enough convenient) or they not watching where they're walking (yammering on their cellphones).

They've also sought to curb speeding in neighborhoods by giving citizens "Slow Down TN" yard signs notifying drivers that people have noticed your speeding and reckless driving. The department hopes to curb behavior, not just write tickets.

More pedestrians are out in fall, with local sports resuming and children going back to school. They remind people that school zones have lower speed limits and the state has laws about not touching your cellphone while driving. October is National Pedestrian Safety month.
