    • What kinds of context can I write about in the exam? This tutorial looks at both the literary context and the social context of Macbeth. The literary context gives a brief introduction to tragedy and the social context examines the Divine Right of Kings, religion, madness, gender, witchcraft.

    Montagues v. Capulets – the brawl in the street!

    • Why does the play begin with conflict?
    • Why is the love story set in the context of a family feud?

    These are some of the key questions that are considered. There is an exploration of key quotations introducing Romeo, Tybalt and Benvolio to the audience.

    • Why is it important that he is introduced as in love with Rosaline at the start of the action?

    We also analyse Shakespeare’s presentation of love through oxymoron.
