In this pilot episode, we dive into why Filipinos love Michael Jordan. Why do Filipinos enjoy celebrating his achievements, are attracted to the Jordan line, and idolize him as a sports hero?
To begin answering these questions, we talk to several Filipino-American fans and experts who share their personal experiences. We learn there is more to their fandom than Jordan's talent. Rather, it reflects the shared traits and culture that Filipinos and Michael Jordan embody.
From versatility, flex, and perseverance, we discover the common threads that connect Filipino fans and MJ. We also explore the historical and social contexts that have shaped this relationship, such as the impact of immigration and fulfilling the modern 'American Dream.'
Through three chapters, we gain a deeper appreciation of the Jordan fandom's cultural significance, meaning, and power of representation and identity.
