Exploring Science Through Stitches with Lauren Wright Vartanian

Join us for an inspiring conversation with Guelph-based artist Lauren Wright Vartanian as we dive into her fascinating work, Stitching Science: Exploring Science from A to Z. Lauren’s latest project, 27 intricate, hand-stitched textile artworks, brilliantly merges the worlds of art and science, depicting fascinating concepts like quantum physics, fractal mathematics, and fetal development in a creative and accessible way.

Lauren shares her journey, from starting the project as a pandemic pastime to its evolution into a stunning hardcover book published by Firefly Books Ltd. Hear how she taught herself new techniques, from quilting and needle felting to cross-stitching over 14,000 stitches on dinosaurs!

This episode also highlights Stitching Science’s exhibition at the Old Post Office Cambridge Public Library, hosted by Cambridge Art Galleries. If you’re curious about how art can make science more approachable or love a great story about perseverance, creativity, and passion, this episode is for you!
