Tim is one. He was a great student to teach and it's been interesting to

see what veterinary work he has been involved in. Perhaps unusually for many of

our students he has taken up a position as a clinical advisor in a veterinary

drug company - listen on to find out what drew him to what some might call the

'dark side' of veterinary medicine!"

years ago - I thought then she would go far, but it's my delight that though

she's done a lot in clinical work and veterinary research in London and

elsewhere she's now back here at the vet school in Cambridge as one of our

pathologists."

Host David Williams said "I've know Jeremy for a fair few years now visiting him in Norfolk to see animals with eye problems, but it wasn't until I interviewed him for this podcast that I found out what he did before turning to veterinary medicine and also all that he does for the profession as well as running the clinic where we works in Feltwell. David says "Alex won’t like me saying this but he was a quite remarkable

student, getting a paper out in Nature Communications showing from his work on

transmissible venereal tumour in dogs that mitochondria move between cells, the

first time this had ever been demonstrated. But as well as being passionate

about science he was and still is ultra keen on veterinary practice too,

spending his first year after graduation living and working as a vet in the

Hi! I'm David Williams and I lecture in veterinary ophthalmology here at the vet school in Cambridge running the eye clinic in the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital. A few months ago I was listening to 'The Animal HeartBeat' the cardiology podcast from colleagues at the Cambridge Vet School and thought that it would be a good idea to run a podcast talking to alumni from the vet school, finding out when they were here, what they are doing now and how they got from there to here, as it were.

I thought that would be of interest to vet students, to vets out there in the real world and to sixth form students and others thinking of becoming a vet, to find out what sort of things vets get up to.

Since having that idea I've interviewed over 20 vets who were students at Cambridge, from those in general practice, ones working in everything from labs to zoos, even ones who have gone to the dark side and entered industry!
