  • Can we have a moment for Structural Sustainability?
    Nov 5 2024

Howdy All, Happy to say the 20th episode of Carbon climates is officially here.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Orla Kearney, a Sustainability Engineer at ARUP, and it was an absolute honor.

Orla shared an insightful overview of her career journey, starting from her role at a local newspaper's picture desk to studying civil engineering at Trinity College Dublin. She also discussed how she landed an industrial placement with ARUP, which led to her becoming a Graduate Structural Engineer.

In this episode, Orla emphasizes the importance of addressing embodied carbon and provides valuable insights into Life Cycle Analysis assessments.

In addition to her work at ARUP, Orla is a former head of Struct IE NI & Ireland and currently serves on the Engineers Ireland committee. She's also a STEM ambassador and advocates for equal representation in the engineering field.

This episode she is back by popular demand, Hannah Ireland from Waterman Group in London.

Hannah takes us through the process of obtaining her Low Carbon Energy Assessment qualification with CIBSE and the process of completing here Low Carbon consulting exam, as well as stressing the importance of CPD hours towards the application. We also talk about Hannah's exciting new role of joining the CIBSE Young Engineers committee in London. This episode was so much fun to film and Hannah gives excellent advice for anyone starting out in the industry. Since recording time Hannah has been busy obtaining her On Construction Domestic Energy Assessment Accreditation and still remains active in the CIBSE YEN committee.

As always plenty of puns along the way!
