When you hear the slogan “There’s no place like Nebraska” this Friday night game should come to mind. It’s the 400th consecutive sellout game at Memorial Stadium with the Nebraska Cornhuskers hosting Illinois Fighting Illini at 7 p.m.

As we prepare for the excitement and pride of our ‘Friday Night Lights’ game, Greg and Minnie will discuss last week’s epic win 34-3 over the University of Northern Iowa and how the mistakes from that game (which were quickly overcome) are key elements to help Nebraska dominate against the Illini.

There are SO MANY SIMILARITIES in this upcoming game;

Friday night will be both teams first B1G conference game

Currently, Nebraska is 3-0 and Illinois is 3-0

Both teams finished 2023 with a 5-7 record

QB play this season has drastically improved for each team

Both Matt Rhule and Bret Bielema believe in emphasizing complimentary football while having a strong running game, great special teams, consistent passing play and being the most physical team on the field.

With these similarities, each team will utilize every talent, trick and advantage they have for this game on Friday night. It could be those “advantages” that could make all the difference. See you Thursday night at 9pm central!

Tonight I’ll be reviewing the game against Northern Iowa and previewing our first Big Ten game of 2024 against Illinois on Friday night.

We’re going to look at how the two teams stack up, Nebraska and Illinois. Both teams are ranked. I believe Nebraska has a 24-game losing streak against ranked teams. Isn’t that friggin’ amazing?

Does Nebraska have anything to fear from Illinois? They’re coming into the game 3-0, just like Nebraska.

How is their offense? How is their defense? What are their strengths and weaknesses?

I’ve seen people say “Nebraska’s run defense was exposed” against Northern Iowa. Is that true?

In fact, people seem to be rather nonplussed about Nebraska 34-3 dominating win over Northern Iowa.

Our main volleyball writer, Beth, will join me in the second half of the show to talk about Nebraska volleyball.

Is the volleyball team capable of winning a national title? Was the Creighton- Nebraska match the best level of volleyball in Nebraska in human history?

This week on Con Nation Overreaction, Greg and Hoss discuss this unusual situation in which Nebraska fans find themselves...the fourth quarter is boring and we don’t know that to do.

Let me be clear on this - we echo HC Matt Rhule’s position that a boring fourth quarter is in fact good. The more guys we are able to get into the game in those situations is good. We don’t need to be Notre Dame scoring 66 points against a clearly over-matched opponent. We need our young guys to get experience.

And that’s what happened Saturday night when the Huskers welcomed FCS University of Northern Iowa to Memorial Stadium. On the way to a 34-3 victory, Matt Rhule and Co. clearly were not worried about style points. The defense, while giving up some long drives, managed to keep the Panthers out of the end zone, even in the fourth quarter, a point of pride for the upperclassmen, as by that point it was largely second- and third-string players in. But the outcome was the same.

It’s a short week as the Huskers prepare for their Big Ten opening contest and the 22-ranked Nebraska squad hosts #24 Illinois on Friday night.

Tonight please join us as Greg and Minnie discuss the victory over Colorado. The fun meet-up with all our friends from the Chatterfields. Greg's first game in Memorial Stadium and Minnies' true stalker stories.

As well as the upcoming game on Saturday against the University of Northern Iowa Panthers. The Panthers and the Cornhuskers both have begun the 2024 football season with wins against their opponents.

The Panthers are ranked #1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. However, Nebraska also got ranked this week after the 28-10 win against the Bufflalos on Saturday. Nebraska is #23 in the AP Poll which is the first time since 2019 that we have been ranked.

Week 2 rankings from College Huddle have Nebraska up to #4 in the B1G conference, just behind Penn St., USC, and Ohio St. So how important is this game on Saturday against the FCS school?

Of course, the W is always important but what we are looking at for Saturday specifically is how well Nebraska's Defense will stop the run with elite Running backs. UNI has racked up 386 rushing yards in their 2 games.

Ty Robinson, Nash Hutmacher, Jamari Butler, Cam Lenhardt, Princewill Umanmielen, Mj Sherman, John Bullock, and Isaac Gifford will all have their chance to show us what makes the Blackshirts of Nebraska Football the deadliest defense in college football.

We will be talking about the Nebraska-Colorado game and, in particular, how the rules are supposed to work.

The second half was the worst half of football I’ve seen in a very long time and that was largely due to the officials making themselves known and being clear that they wanted to influence the game.

We’re going to talk about what targeting is, what holding is, and of course what happened in the game, especially Ty Robinson because I think Ty Robinson should be getting a lot more national buzz.

He should be getting on a lot more award lists. The man is a force of nature and I want everybody to start talking about him.

Well, we are back live less than twenty-four hours after the conclusion of an exciting 28-10 Nebraska win over the Colorado Buffaloes.

Greg, Hoss, and Big Game Jake will discuss Greg’s trip to Lincoln and dining with Hoss. These two friends, fellow Husker fans, and longtime broadcast buddies finally met in real life for the very first time. And to top it all off, the Huskers handled the team from Boulder.

While the second half was, dare we say, a bit of a dud, the first half was such that it built a 28-0 lead and the defense stood on business in the second half to five the Huskers a 2-0 record and propel the team into the Top 25. But there were some really remarkable moments offensively and defensively in the contest.

Greg’s first time stepping into Memorial Stadium and it could not have been written any better.

Nebraska football, does it get any better than this week? It’s what us fans live for!

The rivalry against Nebraska and Colorado is long touted as one of the most intense in CFB. Some say that Coach Prime has helped perpetuate the indignation of the “Boulderites”.

Familiarity really does breed contempt! It’s our 2nd match up under these 2nd year Head Coaches; Matt Rhule and Deion Sanders. Both of whom are striving to rebuild broken football programs.

Ours vs. theirs. Dylan Raiola vs Shadeur Sanders, who has the better Quarterback? One is a Senior who has mastered his craft, the son of the mighty ‘Prime Time’. The other is a 5 star Freshman phenomenon who just happens to be a Husker since birth.

The RED LETTER rivalry. Aug. 1982, the Buffaloes HC Bill McCartney announced Nebraska as a rival. He wrote ‘Cornhuskers’ in red letters on their schedule which was posted in the team house. UMMM, what did we ever do to you?
