    Experimental animation and storytelling – Behind the scenes of Ek Cup Chaha by Sumit Yempalle

    The talk touches upon the process of making the animation short film – Ek Cup Chaha (One Cup of Tea) from the point of view of design, film making and a personal take on the experience of working with experimental mediums. It will also highlight the to-do’s for aspiring student filmmakers who are about to venture into the world of film festivals – national & international.


    Design Stories:

    Design stories is an online talk series that conveys innovative stories on various design topics. Some inventive minds have proved the potential of design by impacting society and influencing the mindsets of generations. ADI Hyd invites designers, innovators and design thinkers to share their Design Journey with students, stakeholders and working professionals. The flow of the session starts with an Introduction, a design story followed by 10 minutes of Q&A.


    About Sumit Yempalle:

    Sumit is an M.Des graduate from the Department of Design, IIT Hyd, with a specialization in Visual Design. He is currently working as a visual designer at TCS, Mumbai. His key areas of interest are film making, visual storytelling, experimental animation techniques and ethnic crafts. Few films that he has worked on include

    ADI Hyd Presents a new edition of Design Stories with Founders of Earthen Tunes- Santosh Kocherlakota, Nakul Lathkar, Vidyadhar Bhandare

    Earthen Tunes is a social enterprise trying to build a better India for the future. It is presently being incubated by the Rural Technology and Business Incubator at IIT-Madras

    The Founders pursued Masters in Transportation and Automobile design in the NID Gandhinagar after completing their undergraduate degree in engineering.


    Prior to starting Earthen Tunes, the team had worked in various fields ranging from electric vehicles, mobility for the disabled, Indian railways to marketing and man-management in oil marketing giants


    After extensive field research in rural India, the team has picked up a set of farmer-oriented problems that they are looking to address in the next decade. As part of this timeline, the first problem they are trying to address is that of the farmers working barefoot.

    After carrying out both lab and field testing of these shoes Earthen Tunes is going to be launching these shoes in July 2021. The team is also developing a snake bite-resistant shoe as well for farmers

    Aditi Anuj shared her design journey.

    Aditi Anuj has a double degree in Textiles; earning the second one from the prestigious NID, Ahmedabad. Having realised the nuances of Origami while still in college, Aditi’s education in design encouraged her to follow her artistic calling of this craft.

    She started her Origami practice in Mumbai and moved to Gurgaon in the first half of 2019. She has been practising Origami for 8 years. She has taken workshops in prestigious design as well as architecture colleges all over the country.

    Sonam Tashi Gyaltsen is an industrial design graduate from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India. He is a co-founder of a multi-disciplinary design studio called Echostream in Sikkim. The studio focuses on community-driven design solutions.


    He has also founded La Sikkim in 2016, as Echostream’s own product/ social enterprise which is focused in developing the creative industry capacity and capabilities in the Indian Himalayan Region starting with Sikkim


    Apart from this, he is the founder of a Zero waste tea brand called T and a hospitality brand Work From the Himalayas which is focused on reviving the economy hit by COVID.
