Summary We have all heard of yoga…but do we really know the full story? Join Chloe Pedalino and Chris Zappola discuss the importance of self-care and how it can be practiced through yoga. They explore the concept of self-care as a way to replenish and nurture oneself amidst the challenges of life. They also delve into the history and philosophy of yoga, and discuss the eight limbs of yoga and the ethical principles of yamas and niyamas. The conversation reviews the meaning of each principle including non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, moderation, non-attachment, purity, contentment, self-discipline, self-study, and surrender to a higher power. Yoga encompasses eight branches, or limbs, that go beyond physical postures. These branches include ethical principles (yamas), personal observances (niyamas), physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), withdrawal of the senses (pratyahara), concentration (dharana), meditation (dhyana), and enlightenment (samadhi). Each branch builds upon the previous one, leading to a deeper understanding of oneself and the universe. Yoga has numerous benefits, including stress reduction, improved mental health, and increased self-awareness. It is a complementary therapy that can be practiced alongside other forms of healing. Yoga and Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, offer practices that align with the seasons. Chris shares an ayurveda practice such as oil massaging which aligns wonderfully with the Virgo & Fall Season. Yoga is a powerful tool for self-care and self-love, helping individuals find balance and harmony in their lives.Yoga provides practical tools to use to improve day-to-day life as well as a map to achieve a state of enlightenment. This soothing practice is particularly beneficial during Virgo season, as it helps to ground and balance the body and mind. Steps: Choose Your Oil: Select an oil that suits your dosha (constitution) or use sesame or coconut oil for general balance. Warm the Oil: Gently warm the oil in a double boiler or by placing the bottle in warm water. Apply the Oil: Starting at your feet, use gentle, circular motions to massage the oil into your skin, moving upwards toward your heart. Focus on the Joints: Use extra oil and attention on your joints, using circular motions to stimulate circulation. Relax and Soak In: Allow the oil to absorb into your skin for 15-20 minutes before showering. Shower or Bathe: Take a warm shower or bath to cleanse the skin, leaving a light layer of oil for continued nourishment.
