Ep 1 - We Are Facing A Food Crisis

  • Summary

  • EPISODE SUMMARY:
The USDA defines food deserts as an area where low-income people cannot easily access large food retailers. The Association of American Medical Colleges and USDA shows that 54 million people are food insecure, and 23.5 million live in food deserts. This means that 1 in 6 Americans struggles to eat daily. People who live in food deserts turn to non-traditional food retailers (convenience stores) and fast food establishments that sell processed foods with lower nutritional value.

The lack of nutrition is a primary catalyst for chronic diseases like Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer. Ziscuit aims to fight these problems by providing tools to underserved shoppers that save them time and money when preparing food for their families.

Ziscuit’s grocery search engine helps shoppers instantly find low-cost grocery items by searching local store prices. Ziscuit’s Recipe Marketplace is filled with health-conscious recipes that are searchable by the type of aliment. Shoppers can earn redeemable credits when they post their health-conscious recipes.
