  • Summary

  • How a teenage inventor, a pig's head, a lump of plywood and a famous British record label made medical history. Bill tells the stories behind the invention of the Reynold's Portable X-Ray Kit and the world's first CT brain scanner, with the help of Katie Dabin, who is the Curator of Medicine at the Science Museum. Their stories reveal how scientific inventions sometimes happen by accident or come from people without a classic scientific background.

Truly an understandable guide to real world inventions.

Bill’s gentle, comedic slant on life with a number of really interesting guests from the London Science Museum. There is no expectation that the listener will have a degree in science but over five half-hour episodes you’ll hear fascinating stories of both the inventor and invention in a few key scientific areas. Wonderfully accessible, entertaining and light hearted if you’d like to learn a few fascinating facts while listening to Bill’s prose and sonorous vocals. Fascinating - much enjoyed it all. Not my normal sphere of interest but I listened avidly!

A fascinating listen not within my usual sphere of interest but enjoyed learning the origins of our ‘taken for granted’ strides forward in science.
