Episode 1: An Unsettling Secret

  • Summary

  • He was brash. Politically incorrect. An “outsider” political candidate who rose to the White House, out of nowhere, with a reputation as a “counter-puncher.” But Vice President Spiro Agnew was also something else… an active criminal whose secrets were about to be exposed. What happens when a “counter-puncher” in the White House suddenly sees his political future directly threatened by investigators inside his own Justice Department?

Rachel Maddow is a great story teller of political history. My favourite podcast

Rachel Maddow has a wonderful talent. She can take obscure historical events and take you along on a wild journey until you realise that what happened in the past explains what is happening now. This is the other Nixon story that has been lost from popular memory. Yet the Agnew playbook is exactly what is being played out under Trump's Republican party today. If you want to understand American politics today then listen to Rachel Maddow. I keep coming back to this podcast and Ultra time after time not only on Audible but other podcast broadcasters. Granted the ads can be annoying but no worse than listening to old radio shows. However if you have hyper-sensitive hearing be aware that there is a lot of speech over music.
