Ganador de un Óscar en 1993 con Belle Époque y de 10 Premios Goya, sus películas cambiaron el lenguaje de nuestro cine, conectándolo con la sociedad desde su exitoso debut con Ópera prima en 1980. Artista multidisciplinar, ha creado más de una veintena de largometrajes (entre ellos, Sé infiel y no mires con quién, Two Much, La niña de mis ojos, Chico y Rita…) y álbumes musicales inolvidables como Calle 54 o Lágrimas Negras, muchos en colaboración con grandes artistas y amigos como Bebo Valdés o Javier Mariscal.
