Trained at Harvard University in both internal medicine and orthopedic surgery and at Stanford University in general surgery, he is a world-renowned expert in biologic and robotic joint replacement. He is the best-selling author of Play Forever: How to Recover from Injury & Thrive. He has served the US Ski Team, the US Pro Ski Tour, the Marin Ballet, and the US Olympic Training Center. His innovative work in the orthopedic arena has led to multiple awards, publications, and grants and has resulted in approximately fifty issued US patents.
