By grace through faith we are brought into personal union with Christ, which includes participation in his death to sin, resurrection life, current reign in heaven, and future return in glory. We contribute nothing to Christ’s accomplishments, but we experience them in him. Our union with Christ is the basis of our receiving all aspects of salvation, and is the power for our ongoing progress in becoming like him. May the Lord fill us with all spiritual understanding and wisdom that we may walk in a manner fully pleasing to him.

We all believe something about life and how we are to live it. What we believe determines how we live. The gospel of Jesus Christ is truth we believe from which we live. In this passage, the Apostle Paul is confronting teachings about life and living that are not according to Christ. And he gives a summary of the truth according to Christ that transforms us as it is received and walked in by faith.
