• 2-Year-Old Boy Found ‘Unclothed’ in Caged Area, 5 Arrested in Carrollton, Kentucky
    Nov 7 2024
Five individuals have been arrested in Carrollton, Kentucky, after a horrifying discovery by law enforcement of a 2-year-old boy found "unclothed" in a caged area, littered with urine and feces. The arrests come after a community tip led police to a property on 7th Street.

Detective Dave Roberts of the Carrollton Police Department, alongside Sgt. Taylor, responded to reports on Monday, November 4. “Upon arrival, Detective Roberts and Sgt. Taylor located a male child, unclothed and under the age of 3, that was locked behind a wooden and metal enclosure that was secured with a padlock,” the police explained in a Facebook post.

The individuals arrested and facing charges of criminal abuse and wanton endangerment include Brenda Chilton, 71; William Mahoney, 72; Codey Johnson, 29; Tammy Simmons, 52; all of Carrollton; and Shelby Turocy, 28, of Ghent, Kentucky. Turocy also faces additional charges for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

Police secured the scene and executed a search warrant with the help of Chief Willhoite, Assistant Chief Dews, and Sgt. Dews. Two children were subsequently removed from the home by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

In an interview with local news outlet WDRB, Detective Roberts described the appalling conditions. "A child was behind there, completely unclothed," he said. "There was feces, and then you're in that contained area." Roberts also revealed that a delivery driver had initially alerted authorities after observing a child locked in what appeared to be a cage. Additionally, eight to ten dogs, described as being in poor health, were found at the property.

The Carrollton Police Department has not confirmed whether the boy is related to any of the five suspects, who are currently being held at The Carroll County Detention Center.

Detective Roberts stressed the critical role the community plays in protecting children. “If you see something, say something,” he stated to WDRB. “This case serves as a reminder of the vital role that bystanders can play in ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable children.”

The investigation into this disturbing case is ongoing. The Carrollton Police Department has yet to provide additional comments and did not immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for more details.

  • Sarah Boone’s Defense Team Seeks New Trial, Cites Judicial Errors and Prosecutorial Misconduct
    Nov 7 2024
Sarah Boone’s legal team is fighting for a new trial after a jury convicted her of second-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr. Boone’s attorney, James Owens, filed a motion arguing that Boone's constitutional rights were violated and accusing the prosecution of misconduct.

Torres’ tragic death occurred in February 2020. Authorities discovered him zipped up in a suitcase at the couple’s apartment following a night of drinking. During her trial, Boone testified that she acted in self-defense and suffered from battered spouse syndrome. The prosecution, however, countered with evidence showing Boone not only left Torres to suffocate but also beat the suitcase with a baseball bat.

The case took four years to reach trial, partly due to Boone’s changing defense team. A total of eight different attorneys represented her before Judge Michael Kraynick ultimately decided that Boone had forfeited her right to an attorney because of her behavior, forcing her to represent herself. Owens’ motion claims this ruling violated Boone’s Sixth Amendment right to legal representation.

“Judge Kraynick failed to warn Ms. Boone that repeated ‘misbehavior’ would lead to her losing her right to an attorney,” Owens wrote. He also emphasized that Boone’s actions did not meet the standard for misconduct that justifies stripping someone of their right to counsel.

Owens pointed to another key issue: the judge's refusal to grant a continuance. Owens had entered his notice of appearance only 45 days before the trial began, which he argued left insufficient time to prepare. “Despite his best attempts to prepare for trial, it was impossible to adequately prepare for unforeseen issues,” Owens stated, mentioning that crucial evidence, such as texts from Boone’s phone and prior interactions with law enforcement, could not be fully reviewed.

Despite Owens’ attempts to delay proceedings, Judge Kraynick held firm, stating that Boone had only “herself to blame” for the defense team's difficulties and that Owens knew the deadlines before taking the case.

Owens further alleged that the prosecution committed misconduct, accusing the State of failing to disclose a change in their rebuttal expert’s opinion. He also criticized prosecutor William Jay for delivering what he called a “second closing argument” instead of a proper rebuttal.

Additionally, Owens contended that Judge Kraynick should have declared a mistrial when Torres’ family had an emotional outburst during closing arguments. The judge denied the mistrial request, and Owens argued that the jury should have received a curative instruction to disregard the incident.

Boone now faces a minimum sentence of 22.5 years in prison, with her sentencing hearing set for Dec. 2. Her attorney’s motion raises critical questions about the fairness of the trial and whether Boone’s right to a robust defense was compromised.

  • Former Officer Linked to Sandra Birchmore Case Faces Possible Decertification
    Nov 6 2024
A former Abington police officer, Joshua Heal, who allegedly had a sexual relationship with Sandra Birchmore, may soon be decertified by a state watchdog group, according to Abington Police Chief John Bonney. Chief Bonney, a recent addition to the department from Stoughton, confirmed he has recommended Heal's decertification to the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission. Heal, who served as a school resource officer, came under scrutiny in connection with Birchmore’s death after an internal investigation revealed disturbing details. Birchmore was found dead in her Canton apartment in 2021. Initially deemed a suicide, her death is now believed to be a homicide orchestrated by former Stoughton officer Matthew Farwell, who allegedly maintained a sexual relationship with her since she was 15. According to a federal indictment, Farwell is accused of staging her death to resemble a suicide. Three former Stoughton officers, including Farwell, have been named as defendants in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Birchmore’s estate. The lawsuit alleges that Farwell, his twin brother William, and former officer Robert Devine groomed Birchmore after she joined a youth explorers program at age 13. Although Heal was also named as a defendant in this suit in 2023, charges against him were dismissed in 2024. Heal’s attorney, Pete Farrell, clarified Heal's position in the ongoing federal investigation, asserting that Heal is cooperating fully as a material witness. “Allegations are allegations, and it is speculative at best to suggest that Mr. Heal may be decertified,” Farrell said in a statement to Boston.com. He added, “The Court made specific factual findings. Those findings speak for themselves and are a part of the Court record. These facts reveal Mr. Heal and Ms. Birchmore were friends and met while both were adults.” Court documents reveal that Heal met Birchmore in 2016 when she was an adult, adopting a cat from the shelter where Heal worked as an animal control officer. According to the records, “Defendant Heal admitted he received oral sex from Ms. Birchmore on at least one known occasion.” Heal also reportedly described their relationship as close friendship in conversations with investigators. Although court findings indicate that Heal and Birchmore did not know each other during her youth, her estate argues that Heal exploited his position, exerting influence over a “vulnerable young adult.” Furthermore, the complaint alleges that Heal had detailed knowledge of Birchmore’s prior abuse and that he was aware Farwell tracked her phone activity. The lawsuit claims, “Heal owed Ms. Birchmore a duty to protect her from abusive and grooming behaviors exhibited by M. Farwell, W. Farwell, and Devine, and to refrain from exploiting his status as the Animal Control Officer to obtain sexual contact with Ms. Birchmore.” According to the POST Commission, Heal resigned from his position with the Abington Police Department “in lieu of discipline” and currently holds certification as an unassociated officer, which is set to expire on July 1, 2025. While Heal’s future as a certified officer remains uncertain, POST has already taken action against other former Stoughton officers connected to the case. William Farwell, Matthew’s twin, was decertified last month, and Robert Devine is listed as “not certified” by POST due to his alleged involvement in inappropriate relations with Birchmore. As the investigation continues, Heal’s decertification status will be determined by POST, potentially marking another step in the efforts to address the troubling circumstances surrounding Birchmore’s death. #SandraBirchmore #PoliceMisconduct #AbingtonPolice #StoughtonInvestigation #POSTCommission #JoshuaHeal #Justice Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? • Karen Read's Defense and Prosecution Request Delay in High-Stakes Second Trial
    Nov 6 2024
Both the prosecution and defense in Karen Read's high-profile criminal case have requested additional time to prepare for the upcoming second trial. In a joint filing on Monday, they asked the judge to reschedule the trial from January 27 to April 1, allowing both sides “adequate time” to prepare.

Read, 44, from Mansfield, faces accusations of striking her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, with her SUV outside a Canton residence and leaving him in severe winter conditions following a night out. According to court records, the alleged incident occurred on January 29, 2022, following visits to two Canton bars, C.F. McCarthy's and Waterfall Bar & Grille.

The first trial, which concluded in July, resulted in a hung jury, unable to reach a unanimous decision on the charges against Read. As she awaits her second trial, Read is also seeking to have certain charges dismissed by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC), which will hear oral arguments in the appeal this week.

The initial trial highlighted numerous complications for the prosecution, including questionable conduct from a Massachusetts State Police trooper involved in the investigation. In what the trooper’s department called a "very regrettable" instance, inappropriate messages were exchanged, leading to the trooper's suspension and triggering internal affairs investigations for other officers. Additionally, Read’s defense questioned the circumstances surrounding damage to her SUV, with concerns raised over surveillance footage that allegedly showed the vehicle’s state in an inverted orientation.

Special Assistant District Attorney Hank Brennan, appointed by Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey to handle the retrial, requested court approval on Friday to reassemble and analyze the telematics system in Read's vehicle. According to the prosecution, the SUV’s telematics could provide critical data, including GPS locations, speed, and engine status, to clarify the sequence of events surrounding O'Keefe's death.

In Monday’s filing, Brennan's team disclosed that they have enlisted additional expert witnesses, including a biomechanical engineer, who are expected to analyze and testify regarding key evidence. The addition of these experts, Brennan argued, will necessitate more time to generate comprehensive reports. The defense, too, emphasized the need for time to review and respond to these findings.

On the civil front, O'Keefe's family filed a lawsuit in August against Read and the two bars visited on the night of the incident. In that case, a judge recently granted a six-month stay on Read’s deposition and discovery requirements, delaying them until after her second criminal trial.

With both the prosecution and defense aligning in their request, the decision now rests with the judge. As this legal battle continues, both sides are working to address gaps exposed during the first trial in an effort to present a more robust case when they reconvene in April.

  • 'Killer Clown' Case: Sheila Keen-Warren Pleads Guilty in 1990 Florida Murder
    Nov 5 2024
Sheila Keen-Warren, widely known as the "killer clown," recently pled guilty to second-degree murder, closing a nearly 30-year-old cold case that haunted Palm Beach County. Keen-Warren admitted to her role in the fatal shooting of Marlene Warren in a crime that shocked Florida in 1990, as the attacker wore a clown costume, arriving with balloons and flowers in hand.

On the day of the murder, Marlene Warren was at her Wellington, Florida home when a person dressed as a clown came to her door, presenting a bouquet and two balloons. Witnesses reported that Marlene, 40, admired the surprise before the clown suddenly produced a gun, shooting her in the face. Marlene’s son, who was also present, witnessed the horrific scene. Despite a lengthy investigation, the case went cold for decades.

Authorities reopened the case in 2014, leading to a breakthrough in 2017 when forensic evidence and witness testimonies implicated Sheila Keen-Warren, who had married Marlene’s widower, Michael Warren, years after the murder. Detectives linked Sheila to a purchase of the clown costume, as well as the car used during the crime. Following her arrest in 2017, Keen-Warren was charged with first-degree murder.

In a recent plea deal, Sheila Keen-Warren admitted guilt for second-degree murder, allowing her to potentially avoid the death penalty. As part of the plea arrangement, she received a 12-year prison sentence, factoring in time served since her 2017 arrest. Keen-Warren could be eligible for release soon, pending good behavior credits.

Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg described the plea as a resolution to a “unique and complex case,” noting that the plea deal brought long-awaited closure to the Warren family and the community.

Marlene Warren’s family members, relieved by the resolution, spoke about their emotional journey. "This has been a long road," one family member said. "We’re grateful that Marlene’s story has finally reached justice."

The bizarre nature of the case—an assailant dressed as a clown—captivated public attention, with theories and speculations around Marlene Warren's murder remaining a topic of discussion for decades. Sheila Keen-Warren’s admission marks the conclusion of one of Florida’s most notorious murder cases.

  • Diddy’s 55th Birthday in Jail: What’s on His Menu?
    Nov 5 2024
Sean "Diddy" Combs, a well-known figure in the music industry, is marking his 55th birthday behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. Facing serious charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, Combs has pleaded not guilty but remains in custody after being denied bail. His trial date is currently set for May 5, 2025.

Combs’ birthday, typically a celebration marked by lavish parties, will be a stark contrast this year. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons' standard menu, breakfast at the Metropolitan Detention Center, served at 6 a.m., includes a simple selection of fruit, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, biscuits, oven-brown potatoes, and spreads like jelly and margarine. Inmates can also enjoy “breakfast cake,” a daily item on the menu, though not specific to birthdays.

Coffee is only available on weekends, so Combs won’t have it on his birthday. Options like pancakes and French toast are also served, but only on Wednesdays and Fridays, respectively.

Lunch, which begins at 11 a.m., offers a variety of items, with the main course on Mondays featuring options like Southwest chicken wraps, chicken tacos, cheese pizza, or three-bean chili. Sides include green beans, rice, salsa, or coleslaw, and the meal comes with fruit. Dessert is offered on some days, but Monday is not one of them, meaning Combs’ birthday meal will be devoid of any sweet treats.

The final meal of the day, dinner, follows a 4 p.m. headcount. Monday's dinner choices include options such as turkey roast with rice, green peas, and gravy, or chicken or tofu fried rice with black beans and carrots. Like lunch, dessert is not typically served with dinner on Mondays.

If Combs has funds in his commissary account, he can purchase items for an upgrade from the standard menu. Popular snacks available to inmates include Nutella, Snickers, macaroni and cheese, and hot chocolate.

Marc Agnifilo, Combs’ attorney, previously noted that food has been one of the more difficult aspects of his life in custody. “I think the food’s probably the roughest part of it,” Agnifilo remarked after a recent status conference at a federal courthouse in Manhattan, underscoring the challenges Combs faces adjusting to his new environment.

In the months ahead, Combs will continue his stay in Brooklyn’s detention facility as he awaits his May 2025 trial, a major event that has drawn attention nationwide.

  • New York Woman Claims Drugging and Abandonment After Attending Diddy-Dirty Money Concert in Manhattan
    Nov 4 2024
A New York woman alleges she was drugged with a date rape drug and left on a Manhattan sidewalk after attending a 2011 Diddy-Dirty Money concert at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. Represented by Long Island attorney Bob Macedonio, the accuser shared her story in the wake of federal sex trafficking charges against Sean "Diddy" Combs.

"We're investigating and potentially going to bring action," Macedonio told Fox News Digital. "We are in the process of obtaining any and all police and medical records and interviewing witnesses."

The incident, dating back to April 22, 2011, began when the woman and a friend were invited backstage after chatting with one of Combs' security guards. "One of the girls I was close with was talking to [Combs'] security guard, and she got us backstage to speak to him and hang out," she recounted. She described the backstage setting as a room "covered in balloons and Ciroc from one wall to the other."

While backstage, she recalls being handed a drink. "They handed us a drink, and literally that's all I remember," she said, recalling only the loud noise from the stage before blacking out. Hours later, she woke up near her parked car with no memory of the events that had transpired.

Shaken and unwell, she attempted to drive home but called her mother for support, ultimately going to a hospital for a sexual assault examination. Tests detected date rape drugs in her system, although no signs of penetration were found. At the hospital, her mother confirmed the woman’s recollection, noting that her daughter’s underwear had been torn open, which she later provided to police. Despite her claims, Suffolk County police reported no records of the case.

The woman tried to piece together what happened by contacting unfamiliar numbers added to her phone that night, but her attempts yielded minimal information. "This guy was like, 'Oh, you were fine,'" she said. "I said, ‘No I was not fine, somebody slipped me something’…Nobody wanted to say anything."

Macedonio requested her medical records earlier this year, but the hospital reported that her general records had been "purged" in accordance with state laws. However, the attorney noted that sex assault examination records are stored differently, and he is working with his client to obtain them specifically.

The woman said recent allegations against Combs prompted her to take legal action, as she has struggled with the lingering trauma of not knowing exactly what happened. "Not knowing what happened to me, that really messes with your brain," she stated. "Now, to hear all this stuff that came out, it's horrific, especially if this man did stuff to younger kids."

Combs, currently held without bail, is awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges, with additional civil lawsuits pending.

  • Former Disney Employee Accused of Hacking Menus, Manipulating Allergen Notifications
    Nov 4 2024
A former menu production manager at Walt Disney World faces federal charges after allegedly hacking the company’s servers following his termination. According to a federal criminal complaint, the fired worker manipulated menu settings, changing prices, inserting profanity, and altering notifications that marked certain menu items as safe for individuals with allergies.

Disney officials said the former worker's actions could have had "potentially fatal consequences" for guests with severe allergies had the changes reached Disney’s restaurant menus. However, Disney detected the tampering before it impacted guests and promptly took the menu creation program offline for more than a week, which resulted in approximately $150,000 in costs for the company.

An internal Disney investigation identified the ex-employee as a suspect, citing his prior role and access within the menu management system. “Only workers in his position or similar positions would have the access and knowledge to carry out the attacks,” stated the criminal complaint. Disney said the worker’s termination last June had been contentious.

The FBI launched a full investigation, eventually leading to the former employee’s arrest. His court-appointed attorney, David Haas, noted that his client, who has struggled with mental health issues from a young age, has not received counseling or treatment in jail. “He is not receiving any mental health counseling or treatment in jail,” Haas said in a motion seeking his release. Haas added that his client intends to plead not guilty once the formal indictment is filed.

While Disney has declined to comment on the ongoing case, company representatives expressed relief that the intercepted menu alterations had prevented any potential harm.
