Andoni Iraola was left fuming after VAR ruled out Dango Ouattara’s added time effort that would have brought Bournemouth victory. Ouattara rose to meet a 93rd minute corner with a header but the effort was disallowed after the ball was adjudged to have been diverted into the goal off the substitute’s arm. Iraola, the Bournemouth manager, was incensed and cautioned for his protests - and one of his assistants later dismissed. But the decision meant Eddie Howe, his opposite number, did not leave his former club empty-handed with Anthony Gordon’s 77th minute equaliser earning a point for Newcastle after Marcus Tavernier had given the home side a first-half lead. Newcastle certainly started as though they were anxious to spoil the party as Bournemouth celebrated the club’s 125th anniversary. Howe’s team settled quickly and created the better of the early chances with Alexander Isak in particular looking dangerous. The Sweden forward first assumed the role of provider, setting up Anthony Gordon whose header was deflected wide, before he was denied by a good save from Neto after getting in behind the home defence.
