  • Episode 10- DM a therapist- So I did this big thing… why do I feel down?
    Sep 8 2022

    Hey folks,

I have gratitude for clients who, since 2008, have let me have a front-row seat to their struggles and successes with transitions and post-highlight events.  Your trust and hard work towards personal growth still inspire me today!

Most of what we do is learn to identify and accept the feelings(not endorse but intentionally accept them for what they are) in order to move forward and choose our next course of action. This might sound simple, but it is hard and consistent work nonetheless.

Our question in this segment came from the cycling community (you folks rock!) but I feel that this discussion might resonate with all of us who have had to work hard towards a specific goal which led us to new guideposts in our lives.  According to this article, if you’re unsure if you might have post-workout blues, here are a few valuable questions to ask yourself https://www.verywellfit.com/in-the-forum-can-exercise-cause-depression-3976865 (consulted on 30 August 2022, 3:40 pm).

We aim to answer in terms of life transitions and psychotherapy view lens as to how you can better manage the feelings triggered as a result of a big event such as a big race or a milestone at work/home.   Having pushed myself right before the recording of the podcast, I had my version of this I had a fresh perspective to offer, but I am the first to acknowledge that what works for me, might not work for you.  If you feel worried that this might be more, I encourage you to reach out to a mental health specialist or your family doctor/local hospital.

This episode was such a great experience where you get to hear our take on accepting ourselves as we are in the moment and be still with physical and emotional sensations in order to: stop, re-assess, and move forward with new knowledge and resilience.

Thank you so much for listening!

    Stay driven and vulnerable,

    LP Landry, MA, RP, CCC.

  • Episode 9: Let's talk about fear
    Jun 8 2022

    Hey driven people!

Matt and I are back doing what we do best: choose a subject and dive deep into the minutia of fear philosophically and psychotherapeutically.  Of course, we can’t talk about fear without its close cousin: anger. Anger is contrasted to violence which is behaviour and anger is a primary emotion that can be very useful.

In our own brand of finding our way, we tackle the topic which brings insight into both our takes on this ever-evolving topic of fear. We elaborate on this topic which will become a pillar conversation on which we will build upon in other offerings of our podcast regarding the management of fear in cycling.

This episode will mark our “off-season” for the tales of Mind, Body, and Relationships part of our podcast.  Have no fear (pun intended) our “DM therapist” segments will keep us excited all summer.

    Season 1 was a blast!

Thank you so much Matt, Vicki and all the listeners of Overcome Café: Tales of Mind, Body, and Relationships.

    Stay driven and vulnerable,

    LP Landry

  • Episode 8: Vicki's experience in cycling part 2
    May 2 2022

    Hey everyone,

If you’re like us, you love deep coffee conversations!  Those great moments where great stories unfold. You start by chatting about the weather and news to somehow find yourself discussing existential questions.  Vicki and I both work from home and we have those daily conversations ranging from: “How can I be better at my craft?” to “what do we want to eat for dinner?”.   We are grateful that the pandemic hasn’t removed those deeper connection moments. This episode is a genuine real “coffee talk” conversation about the challenges of navigating a “new” passion into being part of better life quality and trying to find a community while honing your skills.

How often did you start something but quit because you didn’t find “your crew” or that external validation that keeps you going? We hope that Vicki’s experience encourages you to press on and find community.  We don’t pretend to have all the answers in this one, we want to offer a reflection on why driven people might isolate themselves vs than invest in a community.  The quest to achieve a goal can distract from the beauty of discovering new knowledge by being with others!  Vicki’s story shares the balance between goals, persistence and growing with others.

    Stay driven and vulnerable,

    LP.

  • Episode 7- Vicki's experience in cycling with Vicki Lambrou part 1
    Mar 25 2022

    Hey folks,

Today’s episode is an exciting one!  We have Vicki Lambrou as a guest to share her cycling experience and how this has provided an arena to express life lessons and self-care.  She is a certified counselor working in the Canadian Federal Government and she spends her waking hours helping others. From clients to friends and family, she brings compassion and understanding to others while balancing self-care and personal development.  Her experience in cycling is representative of driven people trying to do the “jugging act” and choosing to set goals that are process-oriented “aka character-building” rather than striving for the next “new thing”.  We have an account of openness and authenticity from Vicki and we hope you will find your “give yourself a break” moment in order to find your passion in cycling.

    Stay driven and vulnerable,

LP Landry, co-host of Overcome Café: tales of Mind, Body, and Relationships.

  • Episode 6- DM a therapist segment "How to ask for help?"
    Mar 3 2022

    Hey folks!

So glad to share part our relationship with you by having Vicki and I sharing a coffee conversation about how to ask for help from a mental or physical health professional.  We give a perspective from both the client's and the professional’s point of view which we hope will encourage you to be vulnerable, set your ego aside and ask for help :)

This will serve you well if you believe that stoping and taking care of yourself is an obstacle to your goals… but not doing so can cost you short and long term.

    Stay driven and vulnerable,

    LP

  • Episode 5- Our "why" episode AKA we love to dive deep into subjects.
    Feb 13 2022

Today’s episode was such a dream of mine!  Having the chance to build alongside great humans! A guest that became a friend and the MOST important human in my life, aka my better half, Vicki!  This episode dives deep into each of our individual why.  Having taken each our own journey to get to this I thought it would so interesting for you to hear us working on this via this episode.  I am so happy for you to hear this genuine, soul-feeding, and emotionally freeing conversation.  We three are different variants of driven people, and this is so obvious by the way we approach life wherever that means of each of us.

Where we unite Matt, Vicki and I are that we are process-oriented and time or number specific are the arenas where we grow and gain wisdom that leads us to our purposes/personal why.

    Have a great listen folks!

    Stay driven and vulnerable,

    LP Landry.
