• Tunnel Vision: After USC falls to Washington for loss No. 5, 2024 is officially a wasted season
    Nov 4 2024
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back from Seattle where they will once again discuss everything that made the road trip a nightmare for the Trojan football team and their fans. After the 26-21 loss to Washington, USC falls to 4-5 on the season, 0-4 on the road and has lost four of its last five games heading into the bye week. Head coach Lincoln Riley has as many losses (10) in his last 16 games at USC than he had in his entire Oklahoma career (55-10). After the game Riley continued with his message that the team is doing a lot of great things and they are simply one play away from turning a loss into a victory. While that is technically true, the common dominator is that being close to winning isn't good enough, especially when the schedule was favorable and some of those losses shouldn't have been close enough to go either way. The guys talk about what they saw and heard up in Seattle and try to make sense of this team fighting for bowl eligibility instead of a berth in the expanded College Football Playoffs. What is left for USC to play for? Wins over Nebraska plus rivals UCLA and Notre Dame would be nice, but it wouldn't erase another (at least) five-loss season in year three of Riley's tenure. This campaign started with great promise after beating LSU in Las Vegas, but four losses in the last five weeks officially makes USC football 2024 another wasted season. • USC Triple-Double: Previewing the 2024-25 USC men's and women's hoops season & special interview with Beth Burns
    Nov 2 2024
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) previewing the upcoming season for the USC men's and women's basketball teams with the Women of Troy a national championship contender and the men's team coming off an exhibition win over a top 10 Gonzaga team. But first, a special guest joins the show as USC women’s associate head coach Beth Burns comes on to discuss what she expects this season after the Trojans revamped the roster with the additions of the No. 1 transfer in the nation, Kiki Iriafen, and fellow Pac-12 transfer Talia von Oelhoffen along with the No. 1 high school recruiting class in the nation, led by Etiwanda (Calif.) guard Kennedy Smith. Burns also talks about how different preparation was leading into this season with the addition of seven freshmen compared to last year having three Ivy League graduate transfers that already had a ton of collegiate experience. Shotgun and Connor then break down the Women of Troy seeking a trip to their first Final Four since 1986 along with a completely new USC men's roster with 13 incoming transfers/freshmen under new head coach Eric Musselman. The podcasting duo give three things they are looking forward to from both squads and two things they still have concerns about as the season is about to begin. They also look forward to Monday's upcoming season openers with the Women of Troy playing in the Aflac Oui-Play event in Paris, France against No. 20 Ole Miss while the men will host SoCon contender Chattanooga at the Galen Center in Musselman's USC debut. • Tunnel Vision: USC is looking for its first road win of the season, taking on the Washington Huskies
    Nov 1 2024
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio for a Halloween edition of the show, previewing the extremely important game between the USC Trojans and the Washington Huskies. Both programs are 4-4 and both need a victory for a realistic shot at making a bowl game and finishing the season on a high note. The Trojans will have their hands full trying to play in Husky Stadium, where UW has an 18-game winning streak going. USC hasn't won a true road game in over a year and would love to finally secure a Big Ten road win, even if it comes against a familiar Pac-12 foe. Washington's strength lies in its pass defense, ranked No. 1 in the FBS. USC likes to throw the ball with Miller Moss but Lincoln Riley could find more success with Woody Marks and the ground game up in Seattle. The Trojans could get some of their injured defensive players back for this game as they try to keep the Huskies offense at bay. UW is one of the top teams in FBS in terms of total offense, but for some reason Washington struggles in the red zone, making point production much lower. The Dawgs are also terrible on special teams, which could provide an opportunity for Zachariah Branch and Makai Lemon in the return game. • Can the Trojans build on that Rutgers win heading into the Washington trip?
    Oct 30 2024
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the Trojans ending their 3-game losing streak with a 42-20 victory over Rutgers on Friday night. The Scarlet Knights aren't a great team, but USC was desperate for a win and needed to get back to .500 with a chance to build on that in the final third of the season. This weekend we will see if the Trojans can keep the momentum of that win going, heading to Seattle to take on the 4-4 Washington Huskies in the final real road trip of the season. It should be an interesting matchup with UW sporting the best pass defense in the country to try and counter Miller Moss and SC's receiver corps. The Huskies play much better at home than on the road and will be looking to shake off their own two-game losing streak with a win over a former Pac-12 foe. The guys also talk about why head coach Lincoln Riley's decision to close practices the remainder of the season is concerning, as this team has plenty of problems that need to be addressed and having reporters watching 10 minutes of stretching isn't one of them. • Coach Harvey Hyde talks about USC's performance against Rutgers and how important it was for the Trojans to get back into the win column
    Oct 28 2024
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde have a chance to talk about a Trojan football victory after USC took care of business by beating Rutgers 42-20 Friday night in the Coliseum. Coach feels like the Men of Troy needed this win badly after losing three straight and sporting a losing record for the first time in Lincoln Riley's head coaching career. The Scarlet Knights were an overmatched opponents and both teams were dealing with significant injuries, but USC did what it needed to do and put up good numbers that the program can build upon heading into the final four games of the regular season. It was a unique Friday sports night in Los Angeles with just a few miles of freeway separating USC hosting Rutgers, the Lakers hosting the Phoenix Suns and the Dodgers hosting the New York Yankees. Coach talks about all that was going on in the City of Angels and the part the Trojans played in the historic night. Coming out of that game, players were smiling again and that is very important for the psyche of a young student athlete. They could go to class on Monday with their heads up and there is more joy in the locker room and at the football facilities knowing that the team got an important victory. Following the win, the fans seem a little more subdued and less enthusiastic, likely a combination of the caliber of opponent, the late Friday kickoff and the lost expectations of what could have been a promising season after USC beat LSU in the opener.
