Post-Christianity?

By: The Gospel Coalition
  • Summary

  • Where does the “post-Christianity” of the twenty-first-century West actually come from? How does this story help us understand the rapid cultural developments we have seen in recent years? And what might evangelism, mission, and discipleship look like in light of it? Andrew Wilson and Glen Scrivener consider our Western, post-Christian culture, discussing how we got here, what it means, and how to respond through topics ranging from sexuality, psychology, and economics to identity, theology, hospitality, and art. Post-Christianity? is a podcast from The Gospel Coalition and The Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics.

  • Introducing: The Everyday Pastor
    Oct 16 2024

The Everyday Pastor is a new podcast from TGC on the nuts and bolts of ministry. Hosted by Ligon Duncan, with nearly 20 years of pastoral experience, and Matt Smethurst, who planted a church three years ago, it seeks to model how ministers of different generations, levels of experience, and even denominations can apply God’s never-changing Word in a fast-changing world.

It’s not an easy time to be a pastor, but it’s an exciting one—because the Lord is on his throne and his Word is enough to help us navigate the trenches of ministry with fortitude and joy. So join Matt and Lig (and special guests along the way) as they seek to help you think wisely about nitty-gritty issues of everyday ministry.

  • Welcome and Witness: How to Reach Out in a Secular Age
    Dec 6 2023

What's special about church? For this final episode, Glen Scrivener and Andrew Wilson are joined by Rebecca McLaughlin, author of Confronting Christianity and The Secular Creed.

They discuss the unique nature of the in-person church as the place where the vertical dimension of worship meets the horizontal dimension of embodied community. Reflecting on the long history of Christianity, they acknowledge that the church simply 'doing its thing' has a transformative leavening impact on the world.

McLaughlin offers a critique of some of our attitudes towards church and personal evangelism, and some encouragements to keep proclaiming Christ even when it feels fruitless. Scrivener examines how our fear of being labeled 'bigots' can sometimes lead us to disqualify ourselves from sharing the gospel, even though our friends might be more receptive than we imagine.

The podcast ends on a hopeful note: we are actually living in pre-Christian times—Jesus is Lord, he is returning, and summer is coming.
