In this study James is challenging us concerning the value of our communication. We are commanded in Scripture not to speak in sinful ways. We are encouraged to speak things that are true, kind, patient, believing, hopeful, and edifying. Our speech is often an indicator of the spiritual maturity of our hearts, since, out of our hearts our mouths will speak. We will be challenged in this passage to examine our own communication.
