A good website is one that meets its visitors' needs, provides them with the information they're looking for in an engaging manner, and doesn't frustrate them or make them feel like it's too hard to navigate. For many of us, creating a website can seem like a lot of work. What if you could skip all those tedious parts and go straight to the fun stuff? You can! If you follow our simple Shopify SEO tips, you'll be able to create a site hierarchy, use data-driven keyword research, optimize metadata, add alt text to images, start blogging, incorporate video and engaging media, improve your site speed, and create a unique page title and write meta descriptions for your pages.

Creating a site hierarchy. One of the most important things you can do to help your site rank well is to create a site hierarchy. A site hierarchy is a list of the different sections of your site (or subcategories) that will help your customers find what they want. This is especially helpful on the homepage, where your primary goal is to get people interested enough to look through your categories and choose which ones are relevant to them. Once you have these categories set up, you should then be able to create a dropdown menu or category selector at the top of your home page so customers can easily decide which type of product to view next.

Data-driven keyword research. When writing about any topic, you need to know what words and phrases your readers will be searching for. This is particularly important on the internet because search engines like Google and Bing use keywords as metrics to figure out how popular certain topics are. The best way to come up with useful keywords is by doing some keyword research. There are several ways to do this, but we recommend using tools that allow you to find longtail keywords and also exclude specific terms like brand names, plurals, numbers, or other common search queries that might not give you exactly the results you're looking for.

One of the easiest ways to do this is by making a spreadsheet and just listing every word you think someone would search for. Then, after you've done that, head over to Google AdWords and see what keywords appear when you search for each word you listed above. You can also download some paid keyword lists to quickly identify the most popular keywords within your niche.

Optimizing metadata. The next thing you can do to optimize your site for organic traffic is to optimize your metadata. Metadata is the little bits of information that sit below the picture or link on a webpage. These include everything from titles and descriptions to prices and stock availability. In general, the more descriptive and accurate the metadata is, the better off you'll be.

To make sure that your pictures and links are optimized, take a quick trip to Google Image Search and check to see if there are any errors with the image filenames or URLs. Also, don't forget to add alt tags. Alt tags are essentially labels that describe the picture or link. They can be very helpful for visually impaired users who can't read the text on your site.

Adding alt text to images. Adding alt text to your images is another great way to optimize your site. It's not only beneficial for visually impaired users, but it can also help your search engine rankings. Since Google doesn't always recognize images, having alt text gives it something to grab onto while it figures
